Wallabies v Wales Game 2 Sat 13 July Melbourne

This is not the place but rugby has not failed in Melbourne. The ARU/RA failed in Melbourne. They shouldn’t have. It’s one of the most sport friendly cities in the world. The idea was good but the execution far from it.

Wallabies v Wales Game 2 Sat 13 July Melbourne

He did say in the press conference that Gleeson had been training well and that he could slot straight into 6, 7 or 8 need be without anyone else changing position. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him come on in place of Valetini, depending on injury and the state of the game mid second half...

Wilson or Gleeson will do a similar job. Valetini can carry in to the defence at 100% for 60 mins then have a fresh Gleeson do the same. They both also hit very hard in defence and like to go for a trot linking with the faster men out wide.

Wallabies v Wales Game 2 Sat 13 July Melbourne

If you look at the RWC games last year, Donaldson is very deep and almost always we get caught way behind the advantage line. At the Force this year he played not quite as deep, but still deeper than the Reds or Brumbies, and tended to kick or go wide very early. Most of the play from the...

Wallabies v Wales Game 2 Sat 13 July Melbourne

Noah has had some good games this year finding space through the middle and backing up. Lynagh too. They both play much closer to the line than Donaldson. He has a bit more speed and vision with space. I thought Wales were offside quite a lot on the weekend and really cramped up our play one off...

I hear he is still ripping it up. Hard worker, finds work off the ball etc etc. I think he will easily remain top notch through the next World Cup. He will have competition, which is a very good thing. Suali also joining next year To also push for a spot.

He reminds a lot of Chris Latham. He has crazy skills but sometimes has taken poor decisions early in his career. He is getting on top of it, as Latho did, and now he hopefully becomes that level of fullback.

You need a few blokes in the pack to just provide grunt and do the hard yakka. I think they were Williams, Wright, McReight and Valetini last week. Kailea and Cale were also very busy when they came on. Clean outs tackles ruck involvements etc.

I think the long term options are likely Marika K. and Corey Toole. I assume Lancaster will get a run in the next few weeks. I see him and Pietsch as being on a similar level. Lancaster may offer more?

That’s why I would not mind Lancaster starting with Daugunu on the bench. If not Lancaster then Pietch. Daugunu was heavily involved and played well but he is a bit slow as an outright winger these days and does not have the best boot.

We did not win comfortably enough to make wholesale changes. Back row looks right. Front row is close. We could look at maybe another winger, 5/8 and lock, most likely off the bench. Otherwise we need to build as Wales surely will having had a look at us.

They are very similar players, both with great rugby intellect.

I think a couple were at inopportune moments in the match. We need to be smarter with our contestable kicks when on attack. Carry the ball a few more phases to see if we can score with ball in hand. Last year we tended to kick to much ball away and Paisami has been guilty of the same with the...

Great contribution chap. Maybe you can pull a couple out of where the sun doesn’t shine? We have some decent young 10s and they will develop. You only got what you got. I have a feeling that Schmidt will go to Lynagh very soon.

He was pretty quiet. Did not see the ball in space but once again was everywhere he needed to be. Made some good defensive plays. A solid debut.

Paisami carries well with the crash ball. He needs to stop kicking away the pill and go wide earlier. He was OK. Very good in defence.

Good player. Has great vision and almost always takes the right option. It’s time for these young blokes to come through. Our last generation were not the best. Some of these young players will end up being stars.

Not yet, but he has been getting better every year. He has developed into a very good 12 with distribution skills etc, as Kerevi did. There is also young Issac Henry who looks to have great potential. Time to rebuild.

And we can test their scrum early

I imagine that it will be a simple game plan. Grind them down and then open up late in the game through the likes of Wright, Paisami, Cale, McReight and Pietsch. Not sure what Wales are bringing to the table but they looked decent occasionally against SA.
