Sevens Lead In and Olympics 2024

It's all pre-ordained based on pool placing, the only two who are placed by seeding are the 7th and 8th overall. So it was set out before the tournament as: 1st pool A vs 8th seed 1st pool B vs 7th seed 1st pool C vs 2nd pool A 2nd pool B vs 2nd pool C You could see it listed this way on the...

Sevens Lead In and Olympics 2024

I think the pattern going forward is going to be guys more like Toole where possible - early development time in the 7s and a return for the Olympics. That sets them up to make the most impact on return without needing a massive lead in. Likely still some exceptions though - I wouldn't be...

Sevens Lead In and Olympics 2024

Yeah, easy to gush of Maddi Levi and her Hattrick performance, but Caslick was such a clear difference between that and the pool game. Took our very solid defence and weaponised it with bulk turn overs. Honestly though, they all look like they're in career best form, an absolute joy to watch.

Sevens Lead In and Olympics 2024

40-7 win, we've booked our place against Canada in the semis. New Zealand vs USA in the other.

Sevens Lead In and Olympics 2024

Warm up game in pools has helped, currently beating Ireland 26-0 at halftime. Also Maddison Levi is the second coming of Lomu. Just so dominant out there.

Sevens Lead In and Olympics 2024

Sevens in Brisbane is set for Suncorp (Ballymore for hockey). There is still plenty to be worked out around potential upgrades for Suncorp or a larger Olympic venue.

    Under-20 Competitions including Oceania & World U20s

The biggest problem with the super 19s at the moment is probably clashes with Aus Schoolboys games (and generally the lack of integration of the schoolboy rep program). I think there were 6 or so guys from the QLD under 19s that were off with the Schoolboys side for the first 2 rounds last year...

    Proposed Nations Championship

Yeah, Spain would be a great party but they would probably be more reliant on the ticketing and marketable timezone for broadcast delivering the profit there. Singapore/Hong Kong are the other destinations I'd like to see looked at, though that is partially for selfish reasons as they're just...

    Proposed Nations Championship

Yeah, as much as they'll take the plaudits from turning Qatar down over human rights concerns I think this decision was all about fans in stands. They'll need them packed out in the early years to sell the promise of the comp (and future editions of it to countries as an event worth bidding for)...

Sevens Lead In and Olympics 2024

Dominance from the Aussie Women overnight, winning 34-5 (vs SA) and 36-5 (vs GB). 7 tries across the two games for Maddison Levi and she's looking absolutely unstoppable right now.

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

The advantage the men will have there is I think it'll be pretty close to the first shot at a medal for Australia at the Olympics (there might one or two cycling medals before it). That'll mean they dominate the papers and press a bit the next day of they win, which should also help build...

Looks like it's raining pretty heavy now: Should be good experience for future games in the pacific.

One way traffic for the Reds women, 10 minutes to go and they've just cracked the half century. Tonga yet to score.

    Northern Hemisphere Rugby

I'd expect they'd look at adding a few more teams to make up the difference, which probably involves looking at the Georgian Black Lions and maybe teams from Spain, Portugal, Germany or even the Netherlands if there is the backing. Not sure adding teams would be the right decision though, but...

Tongan team lists: https://matangitonga.to/2024/07/25/nikolai-foliaki-captain-ikale-tahi-teufaiva-friday Sadly no Adam Coleman, would've been a great test for the Reds set piece.

Tonga vs Reds, 12:30pm Friday 26/7 @ Teufaiva Sports Stadium

A bit of buffering every now and then but the quality of the stream is much better than I was expecting - commentary, ref mics, a few cameras and all of it coming through in 720p.
