Wallabies v Springboks, Sat 17th August 2024 Perth

I assume it is mostly as training bodies in Perth.

    Wallabies 2024

He's playing because he is fit to play and it among the best couple of options we have. That said, it's very clear that it is not until the second year after returning from serious injury that the overwhelming majority of professional athletes reach their peak. That doesn't mean they can't or...

    Australian Rugby / RA

Yikes. I used to play junior rugby with Bouris' eldest son and we used to play against Hoiles.

    I'm a veritable Sherlock Holmes.

    Waratahs 2025

I over-egged the pudding a bit on the juniors stuff but they've largely been at Easts for a fair while. Fifita first played for Easts in 2019 I believe. Ponini in 2022. Teddy Wilson and Jack Bowen both played some colts together at Easts. Heaven and Gamble have been at Easts since 2021...

Wallabies v Springboks, Sat 10th August 2.30pm AEST @ Suncorp,

They should and generally all do look better at Super Rugby level. Particularly when they're playing on a team that is relatively better than the Wallabies vs our opponents. I absolutely agree that we shouldn't be swapping every week but likewise I think the benefit of picking and sticking and...

    Waratahs 2025

We haven't won a premiership since 1969! Generally though, the guys contributing to this side have been Easts players for a long time and plenty since juniors.

Wallabies v Springboks, Sat 10th August 2.30pm AEST @ Suncorp,

Has Lolesio actually improved that much since 2021? In my view he's still largely the same player. The argument that the selecting and dropping him often has damaged his confidence or ability falls flat a bit I think because Donaldson is a pretty direct comparison. Same age, similar pedigree...

    Waratahs 2025

Presumably Darby Lancaster also found time to make a few trips down from Kempsey to play juniors for Easts. What a guy!

    Australian Rugby / RA

It's a YouTube channel with 214 subscribers. It is a guy who has four YouTube videos. I'm not sure why it is notable because he has an English accent.

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

Is that side of it pretty profitable though? You provide someone with what is essentially now a hard drive with an Smart TV app now that it is all just broadband internet based and charge them a significant premium over what you charge for Kayo etc. There's a solid lazy tax there I think. You...

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

They would have to ditch Foxtel if they did that wouldn't they? Binge and Kayo can exist separately under different owners because they don't have a crossover in content but Foxtel having both sport and other wouldn't work in terms of content rights if it wasn't under the same umbrella as Kayo...

Wallabies v Springboks, Sat 10th August 2.30pm AEST @ Suncorp,

I'm not sure if that is reasonable. He didn't get a chance to play Super Rugby and test rugby at age 20 like some of our players but when he did become the Crusaders starting 10 at age 22 (2016) he was pretty good. In his second and third seasons he led them to the title (2017 and 2018). He was...

Wallabies v Springboks, Sat 10th August 2.30pm AEST @ Suncorp,

I think the opportunity to bring younger kids is a key aspect of why some afternoon games should always be part of the Super Rugby and test schedule. I'm certainly not advocating for it to be the bulk of games but the odd one is great.

Wallabies v Springboks, Sat 10th August 2.30pm AEST @ Suncorp,

    Here's the team apparently... 1. Kailea 2. Faessler 3. Ala'alatoa 4. Salakaia-Loto 5. Frost 6. Valetini 7. Tizzano 8. Wilson 9. Gordon 10. Lolesio 11. Daugunu 12. Paisami 13. Ikitau 14. Kellaway 15. Wright 16. Nasser 17. Slipper 18. Nonggorr 19. Williams 20. Hooper 21. McDermott 22. Lynagh 23...

Wallabies v Springboks, Sat 10th August 2.30pm AEST @ Suncorp,

[citation needed] Of the last 32 players to debut for the Wallabies (everyone since 2022), only 6 have played for the Waratahs at the time of selection (i.e. I included Ben Donaldson).

Wallabies v Springboks, Sat 10th August 2.30pm AEST @ Suncorp,

I think he'll be the Wallabies starting 15 within a year or so. I don't think his path is blocked there at all. His goal kicking has to improve a lot. He misses way too many easy ones and is falling into the same area as Carter Gordon where he's losing the job so isn't getting the matchday...

Wallabies v Springboks, Sat 10th August 2.30pm AEST @ Suncorp,

Collateral damage for fans or the players? In general I think they're better off career-wise having been selected in the first place even if for whatever reason it wasn't for a long time. They make more money immediately, they'll always be Wallabies and I think it generally increases their...

Wallabies v Springboks, Sat 10th August 2.30pm AEST @ Suncorp,

I'm not sure I'd describe it as collateral damage. I just don't think either are good enough to be long term starting Wallabies (as is the case with the majority of players who ever pull on the jersey). Realistically we need players to surpass them if we're any chance of consistently being...

Wallabies v Springboks, Sat 10th August 2.30pm AEST @ Suncorp,

I'd say him not playing a game of rugby since late May would be the driving factor. I'd assume there aren't issues with his actual fitness levels but it's the lack of any matches or contact sessions until he joined the squad.
