    Australian Rugby / RA

I can't help but think a number of the departing Waratahs players would have been made (better) offers to stay if RA wasn't in a position where they knew they most likely had a bunch of Rebels players they had to pay for 2025 and beyond that would need a team. So now the Tahs are pretty stuffed...

There were certainly plenty of these in the crowd on Saturday night.

    G&GR POTY 2024: Wallabies v Wales 1 (Sydney)

I guess we should do this again... 3. Rob Valetini 2. Jake Gordon 1. Tom Wright

    Waratahs 2025

I don't understand though. The main photo (which is the only one they needed) doesn't have any logos on it from what I can tell. The image with the logo could have been cropped very easily to not include the logo.

    Waratahs 2025

This is genuinely amazing. The original photo for this one looks to be this. But then they've layered that over the top of the main image so the Brumbies logo is floating out over his neck?!?

    Waratahs 2025

Real graphic design is my passion areas. It's actually quite amazing. They've included three different photos of McKellar, kept a Brumbies logo in there and had McKellar shouting at himself. It presumably took quite a while to put together and I have no idea what they were going for.

2024 Under 20 Rugby Champs all match discussion thread

Losing our first choice LHP, second choice THP and a first choice lock from the first game might have impacted things.

    Wallabies v Wales, 6 July

Torture yourself and treat your wife by only buying one ticket for you!

    Wallabies v Wales, 6 July

Liam Wright has only played 5 tests, has never started and hasn't played for the Wallabies since November 2020. Now he's back in the team as captain. Pretty remarkable really. He's the least capped Wallaby captain since Ken Catchpole in 1961 (thanks Reg for the stat).

    Wallabies v Wales, 6 July

Because people pay 3x or more per ticket to go to a test match than a Super Rugby game. 35k should hopefully be conservative. Below 40k would certainly be a bit disappointing and would be down on previous attendances for similar tours. We're obviously at a pretty low point in terms of Rugby in...

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

They're not. The NZ team that is in this competition (Auckland City FC) plays domestically in NZ and is semi-professional. The NZ A-League teams are part of Asia given they play in an Australian competition. Australia managed to get themselves re-allocated to the Asian Confederation a number...

A crowd of 35k+ certainly seems to be on the cards.

    Refereeing decisions

Players have got bigger and stronger and subsequently scrums have also got much more powerful. They also pack far lower now. Despite that, as Strewthcobber said, they have also got a lot safer.

    Wallabies v Wales, 6 July

I'm not saying they're doing it wrong. Rugby has a rule that teams need to be named at least 48 hours from kick off. Most teams are named on Thursdays for a Saturday game. The Springboks are something of an exception naming their team a couple of days earlier. Other sports are different...

    Wallabies v Wales, 6 July

Because they're only required to name the team 48 hours before the game and it's considered that you're giving away a potential competitive advantage by naming your team further out than your opposition.

Sevens Lead In and Olympics 2024

Josh Turner is surely the hardest done by out of the men to miss out. I would have thought he was a very likely selection.

    Wallabies v Wales, 6 July

It certainly makes sense as by why he wasn't granted a release. I assume he'd also be happy not to have been granted a release on the basis that he was commencing the season as the Wallabies 9. It's an interesting one. He really hasn't excelled in his previous test appearances but has routinely...

    Waratahs 2025

Apparently Dan McKellar is the new coach. https://www.theroar.com.au/2024/07/03/exclusive-mckellar-set-to-be-unveiled-as-waratahs-new-coach-as-rebuild-continues/

    Wallabies 2024

Interesting culmination of that tour. The Wallabies played well with Mowen as captain but from all reports he wasn't popular among the squad and then wasn't prioritised for a Wallaby top up contract so he went overseas. A fairly unusual situation where the current Wallaby captain wasn't viewed...
