    Melbourne Rebels 2024

Debt level was above $10m in 2020, and increased by $4m to $5m each year after that because the Rebels revenue was nowhere near their expenses. This is all in the administrators report We have to do our own maths as to how the debt level got from $0 in 2018 to $10m in 2020

    Melbourne Rebels 2024

The VRU owned the licence at the time (sold back to them for $1), and hence RA couldn't axe one of their voting members. (The Force's licence was owned by RA) When the Rebels brought the administrators in the licence reverted to RA, so they could weild the axe this time

    Melbourne Rebels 2024

The Administrator's report states that the Rebels already had $18m of their total liabilities by end of 2022. They had stopped paying their taxes at least 4 years prior. Waiting for RA's PE seems like a pretty farcical approach to deal with that

    Melbourne Rebels 2024

Luckily, by far the most likely outcome is a settlement out of court with no judgement, so none of us will have to change our opinions on this

    Wallabies 2024

I just don't think he wants to change the 10 in game, whoever it is, at all, and is only doing so because he needs to get game time into them somehow. If Lolesio is unavailable, Donaldson starts.

    Wallabies 2024

I reckon he is happy with Donaldson as the reserve, and doesn't rate Lynagh at this stage (although this may be just my bias because I don't think Lynagh is fast enough, strong enough or physical enough for test rugby at this stage)

    Wallabies 2024

Doran has Edmed in the main 34-man squad today, along with possibly Skelton and Kerevi. Sounds like there will be quite a lot of movement with games outside the window, children being born and injuries etc

    Melbourne Rebels 2024

More importantly, if there is a $30m judgement against RA, who will they play against? Because RA will be insolvent, there won't be any distributions to Super Rugby teams or member unions and there won't be any pro rugby in this country

    Melbourne Rebels 2024

From the administrator's report My understanding is RA provided the Rebels with money to pay players and their tax obligations while on Wallaby duty. The Rebels used this money to cover other debts, and didn't pay the ATO the tax liability. The Rebels position is RA continue to remain liable...

    Melbourne Rebels 2024

The Tahs and Brumbies franchises don't get a vote anymore as they don't have an independent license under the participation agreement. So it's just the Reds & Force Rebels lost their Super Rugby licence when they called in the administrator, and hence weren't members of RA anymore.

Somewhat better at gifs than me embed the lawyers swimming in Scrooge McDuck gold pool

    Wallabies 2024

I can't think of anything the BIL's coach would like more than us not even trying to integrate Skelton into the team.

    Australian Rugby / RA

Well now we know why RA aren't funding the Rebel's women's team - the budget for that is going straight into a SC's yacht refurbishment
  14. Strewthcobber

    Wallabies 2024

He'll be available for England, Scotland and Wales - La Rochelle has a bye for the first two games, and the Ireland game is outside the window Take what we can get in advance of the Lions tour

    Australian Rugby / RA

How does taking a $5.3m contract over three years to $8m over 5 years result in a secret $4m clause?

    Wallabies 2024

Eddie had an offer on the table from USA rugby I think though? So a post WC role was never really an option - especially as he was already talking to Japan. edit - was an 8 year role with USA apparently -...

    Northern Hemisphere Rugby

Tuipuloto played his first test for Scotland after starting three games for Glasgow. He was in the six nations side in his first year there. Whatever it was that turned him from reserve Rebels player to a starting international player, it wasn't more game time

    Australian Rugby / RA

First I defended RA and now the Tahs FFS. Understanding the real financial situation, and finding a solution to ensure your loss making organisation can continue to operate without insolvent operations is probably one of the only good management practices at the Tahs you could point to.

    Wallabies 2024

The players of interest for the tour already know and are training at their "home" cities. The squad will be announced in advance of two camps where they all get together in late October before they depart, so probably in a week or so.

    Australian Rugby / RA

They had spent $60m of it before paying to keep the Rebels running this year, the legal fees associated with it and covering some of the contracts for 2025, as well as whatever shortfall it's costing to keep the Tahs and Brumbies going. Basically, it's keeping the game going at the moment
