what makes you say this? Counter cyclical hiring could be an advantage given how many buyers will be in the market at that time.

Really makes you wonder about standards in training at the super level. An uncharitable interpretation of the Wright story would be that his coach told him it would be a good idea to try harder.

    Ballymore Redevelopment

It was always such a terrible option in every single facet. More expensive in the long run, no real transport options, no legacy, globally embarrassing. It really wouldn’t surprise me if we go straight back to the original proposal. Saw someone float just copying Optus stadium and chuck a...

I’m happy enough that Perth is getting the bled given they aren’t getting a Lions test. Townsville didn’t show up for the Reds when they last went up and Brisbane has not had one Wallabies match in the last 2 years. Most SEQ rugby fans won’t be able to get Lions tickets or won’t be able to...

Looks awesome. Hope it’s an away strip. I’d wear that to the pub.

That is a bloody deep squad. Don’t want to speak immodestly of my team or jinx ourselves but frankly we will kill, destroy or simply humiliate every other Aus team next year as well as most of the Kiwi ones.

He has commented that he’s only signed up until the Lions tour, not inclusive so it may be a case of squeezing the lemon for every drop.

He was playing as a back at school level. I played as a lock at school level and I have seriously no idea what happens at the rucks in pro 2024 rugby and so I think that will be his biggest learning curve. I think Derpus’ ‘fuck it all to shit anyway’ argument is the most convincing and where I...

Counterpoint to that would be does he know the rules? Folau threw the ball out dead and wasn’t allowed to kick for 6 months when he came across and SBW was absolutely poleaxed by Luke Burgess just standing next to a ruck in a barbarians game because he had no idea what was happening. He will be...

Not sure, I think Wright fits the mould of what Schmidt is looking for at 6 a lot better than any other back row option. Better line out and work rate. Can definitely see Wilson being the replacement option.

U18 Academy Games and Australia U18s

It definitely seems like a lose-lose situation for the kids*. Are we really comfortable with businesses paying school fees for future employees that are like 12 years old? But if you prosecute that argument then are you also comfortable with schools essentially doing the same thing to be...

I guess you are talking about forcing a student to play a sport. My understanding is that the guy was pretty involved in the school’s extra curricular so I’m not sure that has legs. If he were on a scholarship for his rugby skills that would be a different matter but how much do you think the...

I wish I was as bad at rugby as some people on these pages think Simmons was. Fardy one of my favourite ever players but I don’t think he was a good option at lock at test level.

Pocock had missed a lot of time with injury in the preceding 3 years but was fully fit for that rwc. He’d basically never been a bench selection when available other than with Cheika from memory. I think if you had Valetini in that team it would be much better balanced. Kuridrani was the only...

The real question is which of Hooper and Pocock would you drop to pair Fardy and Valetini. Cheika would have definitely dropped Pocock. I think in 2015 I’d still have selected Pocock with Hooper to play the last 30 for whichever of Fardy and Valetini is more gassed.

@Hogan I agree strongly with most of that. There are players in our squad who would not be in the world’s best 50 players in their position. They are the best we have as you say. Regarding overseas, I actually agree also that 1 or 2 players ain’t doing much. However opening up selection without...

Indeed they were. Not as close to the finished product as Quade and Pocock at that stage though. Uelese would have been scary. Didn’t he play under 8s when he was like 3? I believe the 2007 TSS team had Rob Simmons, James Slipper, Ben Tapuai, Jono Lance, Nathan Stapleton, Luke & Simon Morahan...

    Wallabies 2024

Yep, they only really needed one back whilst in possession but on defence they needed all the help they could get. Would be hard pressed to think of a schoolboy team in history that could beat Quade and Pocock together. Possibly the Ella brothers.

From memory that Churchie team played three traditional open sides as a tactic. Also Pocock was just so much tougher and more granite like that he could truck it up over and over. Other than that he didn’t really play as a back.
