    Sydney Subbies 2022

Yep. Down to Div 3 they go. Probably put Briars in their place just based purely on playing stock numbers and the fact that they can field 3 grades and a colts where Quins are using Easts 4ths colts as their own.

    Sydney Subbies 2022

While I agree that the geographical split works in theory, having teams more akin to a genuine 4th grade playing against teams who wouldn’t be out of place in 2nd grade (or partially in 1sts) becomes a farce. And that drives players away when you have a cricket score smacking you in the face...

    Sydney Subbies 2022

Looking to next season, 8 teams per division has to be the end goal. See below for a possible layout that should keep most happy and minimise the weeks where a whole grade goes without games (see Div 2 4th Grade this season...). Thoughts?? Div 1 Div 2 Div 3 Div 4 Div 5a Div 5b 4 + C 4 + C 3...

Also for those of us without a Cluch subscription or who are otherwise occupied, do you mind spilling the beans on what is meant to occur exactly?

    Sydney Subbies 2022

This is where the “regional” idea shines because if a club is lacking numbers, they don’t have a minimum requirement to fill. Regrade the competition and all of a sudden the lack of numbers for Hawkesbury Ag isn’t a problem anymore because they only have to field 1 team for the season. All the...

    Sydney Subbies 2022

The reason I did all this was because I get the feeling like if it was more localised, clubs like Maccabi, Clovelly, Engadine, Dundas Valley, Fairvale etc. (smaller clubs, based in predominantly League areas where games are all played within approx. 20 mins of your home ground) wouldn't have...

    Sydney Subbies 2022

Also before I'm crucified for it, all of this is done at 1am and going (mainly) off last season's annual report for positions. I'm also not across every and all teams in Subbies land. My bad if I've missed the mark with where some teams "belong".

    Sydney Subbies 2022

With the amount of clubs that wont be fielding the full compliment of grades, is it time to look at a proper restructure where competitions are more geographically based rather than asking someone to travel from the Blue Mountains across to Waverley, or from Wakehurst to Burraneer? We ask our...

    Subbies 2021

Early look at some stuff that stood out to me from lower down in the divisions; DIV 3 - Raptors wiping the floor across all grades against Blacktown. Lots of players playing multiple grades for Blacktown (some were playing 3s 2s and 1s...at least according to FuseSport). Anyone know what the...

    Sydney Subbies 2020

Dukes 1s were on the wrong side of the ref for a solid 75% of the game, 14 men for 20 mins, a penalty try (which while technically he was correct, it could be debated that a penalty was sufficient) and a questionable (at best) try for the Convicts in the corner where our player held up the...

    Sydney Subbies 2020

We’re keen for a big day this weekend! First time we’ve had 3 grades. Plus it’ll be a regular thing for us this year it seems too. Hopefully some good building blocks to lead into for next season and beyond!

Looking Back - NSW Subbies 2001

The Liverpool side(s) I've found out, or at least I think I have, that they were in fact 2 different clubs. Liverpool Bulls were the original green and gold team that has their roots all the way back in the 80's or further back in the Premier Third Division. They died out after the 2010 season...

Looking Back - NSW Subbies 2001

So with all this COVID crap flying around, cabin fever setting in, figured why not have a look back at what the NSW Subbies Rugby landscape was like 19 years ago in 2001. Clubs have come and gone, some have gone from strength to strength while others have remained where they always have without...

If it was an even $10 I’d make the trip from Botany down to Sylvania but $15 for one game of Division 5 rugby is an absolute joke

    Sydney Subbies 2019

I would think the way forward would be; Div 1 - 4 Grades + Colts (10 teams) Drummoyne Mosman Blue Mountains Petersham Waverley Colleagues Knox Forest (ex Div 2) St Pats (ex Div 2) Hunters Hill (ex Div 2) Balmain drops out for obvious reasons. Forest, St Pats and Hunters Hill come up after a...

    Sydney Subbies 2019

So we have; South 1 Dukes 2 Maccabi 3 Burraneer 4 Cronulla 5 Engadine 6 Convicts North 7 Manly 8 Renegades 9 Raptors 10 Chatswood 11 Lane Cove 12 Wakehurst 13 Dee Why Unknowns 14 Dundas? 15 Collaroy? 16 Menai? 17 Kings Dundas have always had a numbers issue (who hasn't?) but they trialed...

Haven’t heard anything but a search of their Facebook makes me think it’s probably sevens

    Sydney Subbies 2019

Seems relatively balanced however I think you’ll find Maccabi will end up in Div 5 (2 grades with the Jewish Games this year). That would probably see Manly/Burra come down. Hope the Raptors aren’t going to come across issues with travel to places like Engadine through the year. Also is it...

    Sydney Subbies 2018

Speaking as a Dukes player and committee member, we were really looking forward to this weekend to play against you guys in the first place (45-50 min commute = bus trip...try keeping the guys from getting excited about that!). Now that this is added to the mix, we're really keen on coming out...

    Sydney Subbies 2018

Well they joined us from the old Mac Crusaders and some league boys here and there, Merrylands is closer to home for them I suppose plus i'm fairly sure they know a couple of the Merrylands boys. Easier to train and play there rather than fighting the M5 every weekend just for a home game.
