    Melbourne Rebels 2024

Is it possible that the rebels fold financially and RA grants itself a new license for a new Victoria team, boys rebels name etc for Pennie’s and recontracts everyone at RA bringing the team In house and centralized?

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

I guess Stan has an app too correct? Seems like a one stop shop for rugby fans but hard to see new fans subscribing to that for that price but if with Stan or foxtel and you can also get afl league and some soccer etc. Hopefully a huge number comes through for us.

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

I think quite a bit has changed since the last two broadcast deals and with so many leiple Cutting the chord, the best path forward might be back on fox with an ability to subscribe just to sports via an app especially. Seems like they could probably offer more money which is desperately needed...

    Melbourne Rebels 2024

100% the calls for a commissioner who could run this with a more singular vision amd Focus on actual growth fell on deaf ears cause everyone was worried about protecting their patch and lo and behold things fell apart. I don’t really know how it becomes relevant to the broader public again. Lots...

That’s my point. Aussie, sa expansion were done poorly.

World club comp will deliver a bunch of games in shitty time slots. Club comps at global level don’t even draw attention in soccer. Get interest in the club comps up locally (aus, Japan, wales, Italy etc) and people will care. Won’t surprise me if we see England clubs merge up with celtics 4...

    Melbourne Rebels 2024

Mistakes probably didn’t start here but devaluing the super brand through expansion of the sun wolves, Kings and the Cheetahs (lesser extent jaguars) was a big turning point. I would add in the rebels to be frank. They needed to win in year 1 (see Las Vegas golden knights and Seattle kraken for...

That’s great - with other rugby fanatics or with fans of other sports that you convince to come along?

Fair enough but all else holds.

    Melbourne Rebels 2024

Id second this. I could rarely find someone to go to a rebels game with. Occasionally the wallabies games an afl friend would be interested in going to. I don’t know if I buy the tribal element. It is state by state so there’s tribalism there and Brumbies etc have been around 25 years. That’s...

    Melbourne Rebels 2024

I still don’t get it. Watch the six nations or nz games and sa games. It’s a good sport. Don’t let one poor administrative body put you off

    Melbourne Rebels 2024

I don’t get this line. Assuming you like rugby, why would you not get behind a lions tour or a World Cup in your back yard?

    Melbourne Rebels 2024

Financially and market wise the obvious answer is Brumbies to go but they appear to be moderately more solvent than the rebels. Will be interesting to see what happens. I agree that I think RA will take them over completely and do the same with the Brumbies. Let reds and force stand on their own...

    Australian Rugby / RA

They need to go to an extended season of home and away games so there’s more games. That would enable rebels to play 2 homes games in Tonga and Samoa and still keep current Melbourne home games. Maybe that gets funding from WR (World Rugby) and those two countries. Other than that - an alliance I don’t know...

The one and only Wallaby Coach thread

Good? We are restarting and that’s what we need. Success from simplicity based on our ability and then build depth off that and greater skills and iq through competition and so forth. I mean Eddie offered us none of that and nothing at the same time

The one and only Wallaby Coach thread

One of the dumbest blow hards going around Fails to recall we just hired an Aussie who won a World Cup and it was as big a disaster as you could imagine. The only bigger whiner than Martin is kearns

and how many coaches fail? Most You need to pick the one with the most vast experience to draw from and the best track record of success. If you believe most on this thread then the all blacks turned around because Joe got involved The idea that larkham is the candidate it a bit silly. He’s...

    Northern Hemisphere Rugby

College is very big. Most people have their school and support them hard but the numbers are dwarfed by the nfl. The pro bowl gets more viewers than the college championship. You just have a lot of football fans that didn’t go to a football school or didn’t go to school. Kolbe is way too small...

    Aussie Player Exodus

Shame Paul didn’t stay in aus and choose aus over Samoa I think Bob Dwyer called him a star in the making back when he was like 21. Said he was built to scrummage

The one and only Wallaby Coach thread

I think at the end of the day he had great success with us up til 2003 final and down hill fast after that. Japan - he beat South Africa. A huge upset but not much else tho don’t take away from that. SA were complete shambles that year admittedly but it would be like us losing to Tonga right now...
