I would love to know whether there's actually been a measurable drop off in crowds for the Shute Shield since every game has been broadcast on Stan. I would be highly surprised if there was one or if there was, whether it was considerable.

    Wallabies 2024

I saw this photo on the Wallabies facebook page a couple of weeks ago and my first thought was the aggressive head shaving was a bad idea heading into Summer in Queensland. Out with heat stroke and sunburn?

    Melbourne Rebels 2024

It's probably tactical. Rugby Australia sends their silk the draft statement of claim received in March and then the statement of claim when filed to "review". They don't actually brief him (sign a letter of engagement) until October 22. They then (unsuccessfully) ask the court for a delay...

    Wallabies 2024

Victorians live next to Antarctica and the last time one of them went swimming (Harold Holt) they disappeared without a trace. The concept of swimming is purely conceptual for them.

    Lions Tour 2025

There was a ballot for all tests (you could pick which test you wanted to enter the ballot for). It was open to 2025 Super Rugby members. Now where's the grimacing face emoji...

    Lions Tour 2025

One aspect I really liked when entering the ballot is it seemed almost impossible to find out what the ticket prices were at that point.

    Lions Tour 2025

There was no online queue for this. You could enter the ballot based on Super Rugby membership. You selected the tickets you want (up to 2 per membership) and then if successful your credit card gets charged over the three days of the ballot.

    Lions Tour 2025

No emails from Ticketek yet but judging by the eye-watering charge that appeared on my credit card a couple of days ago, I was successful in the Lions Tour ballot for the Sydney test. Anyone else apply and did you get tickets?

I'll be deep in the cold, cold ground before I recognize Roma.

I don't think you can appoint a test coach with such little high end experience in the XVs game nor is any of it recent. Tim Walsh has literally never coached XVs and John Manenti coached Eastwood.

It depends who you want. Two years out from a RWC is certainly a better time than one year out but the Eddie Jones fiasco showed that making a hire at a time when there isn't much talent available on the market means you're severely limited in who you can hire given you're almost certainly...

I would have thought that the results next year would play a big part in what Joe Schmidt does. If we're competitive against the Lions and things are looking up you'd think he'd want to stay on for two more years to a home RWC and likewise RA would want to keep him. If we continue to struggle...

    Western Force 2025

I think depending on the Super Rugby team, regular bench players in some positions are the worst off. They play limited Super Rugby minutes and then don't get to play club rugby on the weekend. For example, the total minutes played by Jack Grant (generally the reserve 9 for the Tahs) for the...

    Western Force 2025

I think you're at cross purposes with Adam84. He's saying that by virtue of being one of the now 60 starting Super Rugby players, you can never be that far away from a Wallabies squad (regardless of how ready you are to play test rugby). On your point I would say that a lot of the development...

Yeah, I do. I think we want our best players playing in as many games as possible. They raise the standard and the level of interest. I also think the primary driver of this is adding more good quality games for our better players. Removing them from club rugby and getting them to play...

Do you think club rugby would be improved by less involvement from professional players than there is now? I can't imagine the clubs nor the players would be keen for this.

    Waratahs 2025

Tahs vs Kubota Spears in Tokyo on November 29. Hopefully they are adding a second game.

I don't think you suddenly get a lot more people at games because you remove the conflicts with schoolboy rugby etc. If you move one of those to Friday night or Sunday I don't think you really see much of a bump in crowd figures for either.

I think the issue is that a couple of thousand people doesn't make it a hit. What is the correct marketing? Broadly, widespread marketing to the general public is expensive for very little return. You certainly need fans to be aware of it but largely your marketing is going to be through your...
