Queensland Reds 2026

I know nothing about the boy or his talents. My comment relates to the old boy mentalities and opportunities afforded to individuals that may not otherwise deserve it, just because of a surname, family history or influence.
Just my observation of the organisation's decisions in recent times.
Right so you have no idea whether that applies in this case but happy to lob the grenade anyway.

Anyone know if Nicolo Lynagh is any good beyond the usual pundits?
My nephew goes to a rival school, so I have seen him running around. He is like fine, not quite the frame like Louis but definitely more athletic than Tom. Pretty zippy bloke with decent wheels, but misses a bit of that good old Queensland mongrel. Obviously a stand out in his 5-9 losing school team, but he isn't going to be a world beater.

To be fair, most stand out rugby players in English school setups get an academy contract so if it wasn't the reds it would probably be any of the London based prem teams.

Well, if you know nothing then say nothing...
I have said nothing about the boy or his talents. Maybe you should open your eyes and see what is happening to rugby in Australia. Less participation, no growth, no development = poor performances at all levels. I've been a rugby nut for over 60 years and the game at the moment is in a very poor position. I feel for whole suffering rugby community.

Hate to break it to you mate but people in here are able to scroll up 6 posts...

Talent is not a prerequisite at the Reds. The boy has the the right surname.

Oh, rugby in Australia is struggling!?
I see your point now.

The nepotism comment is a weird one because he could literally be the best kid out of the 3 and the other 2 have played test rugby and have shown they can play at a high level. Reds aren't investing in him just because he's got a famous Dad, they obviously rate their skill set.

Regardless, Unc fails to realise that this isn't stopping anyone else coming through the Australian system. He's not taking anyone's spot it's an academy deal. And if anything, it's actually strengthening a development opportunity through Benetton rugby which is what RA need.

So......is this a poach?
Unclear. He was on short term academy deal with Quins and this seems to pick up when that finishes. It sounds like they've been talking to him for a while though. If I had to guess I'd say that Quins might have kept him if there was no (or less attractive) competition, but they won't be too broken up about losing him either.

Will be keen to see how he goes. 1 year isn't much of a risk for the Reds. He'll pop up in the reds U19 and Aus U20s if he's good enough. he'll have to be good with Conway, Pritchard and Ruebens showing heaps of promise.

Aus 20s is a way off. You mention 3 names there but add in Watters, Charlie, Farr-Jones, Cloete, Hartman

Just an Academy deal so nobody needs to freak out. Get some gear and go play senior Club footy whilst getting extra sessions in with the Reds.

How long have you been around the organisation? Months, years or decades?
Firstly, you blow up about Carter Gordon signing on, and now about Nico Lynagh. To understand your adversity here, has someone you know been pushed back in the pecking order? My advice is, tell little Johnny to go hard, do the extras, pick a mentor and above most, have a great attitude. If Johnny has what is takes and is coachable, then he will trump his competition and learn how to thrive in a team environment. I find that most successful sports people are usually a chip off the old block. A parent’s attitude is key here.
