Depressingly Crusaders absolutely stacked.

Excited to see Warner Dearns return and get tested against the big boys.

Same goes for Ahki. But Blues look a bit in trouble beyond starting XV in the forwards and fullback? Might be some names I don't know that are better than I give credit to.

You'd have to guess based on tahs squad, they would look like below, with the main team looking ok, however literally no super high quality depth to account for injuries:

1 Kailea, 2 fainga, 3 botha, 4 blyth, 5 philip, 6 gamble, 7 adamson, 8 samu, 9 gordon, 10 creighton, 11potter, 12 walton, 13 jas, 14 jorgo, 15 kellaway

16 moananu, 17 lambert, 18 amone, 19 grant, 20 talataina, 21 hooper, 22 wilson, 23 deb

thats if they go 6-2 split as they have walton who can cover 10, 13. jas who can cover 11-15, jorgo who can cover 11 & 15, kellaway 11, 13, 15

doesnt leave much quality left, only having 3 hookers is a strange one as we as only 3 actual centers. odonnell not being there baffles me as well

Anyone know how long the "extended break" for AB & AB XV players is? Sounds like it'll be longer than this year, possibly on account of the upcoming SA tour on which they'll take 40-odd players (2 x 23s has been mentioned, one based in Cape Town & the other in Jo'burg).

O'Donnell on a break from the game. Could be back during the year but in the unsure category. Instant improvement to the squad if he's available at some point.

5 win season for the Tahs I think. Looks like a harder draw than last year and they lose Bell and Gleeson who are focal points of attack.

I'm hopeful to see Wilson take the next step and guys like Doyle be blooded. Hopefully build a group to then go for 7-8 wins in the following years and compete in Finals matches.

Yeah harder draw but should have a better understanding of DM’s coaching.

For some. A lot more turnover again means many are starting from scratch. Still plenty of key guys back who are a year into it but the draw being harder with the outs has them going -1 win this season for me.

Its a swing of +/- a win for a spot in finals any year and I think a side like the Force with a favourable draw this year may get that extra W. Being able to close out the year with two at home and the final game v the Tahs after at HBF is about as good as they could get.

Yeah dunno about how many wins you'll get against NZ. They look like they've all held or improved their squads. But there's lots of wins up for grabs now in Aus.

Will be interesting to see how Super Rugby manages the resting protocols that have now come out as World Rugby guidelines

The new guidelines state that players should:

  • Play no more than 30 games in a single season or six consecutive match weeks
  • Have a dedicated 5 week off season break
  • Be entitled to minimum rest periods should they be selected for international fixtures of at least 1 week.
  • Across a year, have 12 weeks of non-contact time
  • Communicate thoroughly between Club & Country

* Only Billy Pollard looks like he will hit 30 games this year (no Super Rugby finals helps with this!)
* Super Rugby does schedule 7 consecutive match weeks for some teams (eg Reds play 27 Feb to 11 April) - so that will need to be addressed
* 5 week off-season should be fine
* We don't have the issue with international breaks, although players like Skelton will
* 12 weeks of non-contact should be fine

Won't there be a lot of instances where players may be required to play more than six consecutive matches, for any team that makes finals in their respective competitions it would be highly likely?
Probably, but aren't they just guidelines, and not rules? Would imagine you could still play in finals etc.

Yes but still seems strange - for example in QPR if your side has an early 2nd round BYE, it's quite possible some teams could play for 10-11 consecutive weeks in a row if they play through all 3 rounds of finals. Nearly double their guideline.
