I've heard Jim McKay isn't a lock - there is a group of UQ supporters/members who are supporting Slats and potentially Steve Moore as a specialist assistant coach.

talking with a Souths mate, he said Kohan Herbert looks likely to be going to Bond next year, King too possibly. Think Herbert moving for work, not sure on King
It seems that Souths continue to disintegrate on and off the field.
Perhaps the Committee and its advisors should have accepted the offer of a rescue Business Plan from the business savvy old boy group back in 2023.
Also, whatever happened to the 2024 Premiership winning Colts 1 coach who was sacked by the committee?

Both Colts 1 coaches are at Wests, 1 assistant prem grade and 1 just announced womens head coach next year, he did reserve grade mens this year

Wallabies pay six-figure transfer fee to bring Carter Gordon back from Gold Coast Titans

Very pleased to read this. Furthermore the article published in The Australian indicates Gordon will be playing for Queensland. That would mean Queensland would have Tom Lynagh, Harry McLaughlin-Phillips and Carter Gordon on their books as their 10's. Wonderful for depth but not sure all will get the development they require for the 2027 RWC? From a QPR perspective it would appear at least 1 of these 3 would be turning out in QPR each week in 2026. Good for Wests and University.

maybe for the reds chat, but I do feel as if they don't pursue their investments in youth at times.

In the end looking to more established players after wasting a load of cash, time and effort - Carter is definitely an upgrade but struth we decided to move on from JOC (James O'Connor) and Creighton only to recall Gordon.

I'd say flyhalf is probably the position with the most fall from professional to QPR at the moment and this should be great for the comp. Hegarty in the last couple games of the GPS season this year comes to mind, or the departure of Jude Gibbs at brothers, an absolute game changer.

Does anyone know and have a reference for any rules regarding player payments? I've always heard that there are specific rules/max budget allowed to be spent, etc, but I've never seen anything in writing to back it up.

I'm sure there is always creative accounting going on, and fair play to them, but I am just curious what rules clubs may/may not have to work around

Hearing the same whispers also about Herbert and other players. Souths was so well placed after last year with colts program so strong winning Colts 1 & 2. You've got to ask the question why would the Board and DOR Morgan at the time inform Colts coach his services no longer wanted?? Then lots of players left following Colts coach. That decision along with other issues have ripped the guts out of the club. Lot of members happy to hammer Todd Dammers when he left, but geez he left things in place a lot better than then recent crew.

I agree, Dammers gets blamed for a fair bit, but I think he got the club going in the right direction, he had to blood alot of younger players due to the state of the club, and therefore didn't get great results. But under his watch was when they decided to build from the bottom up and O'conner and Samoa and others went down to colts to start recruiting and developing depth. Morgan has benefited from this over the last couple of years, but looks as though any gains the club has made have been squandered with poor management

Has the Committee ever explained why they sacked the successful Premiership winning Colts 1 coach?

Don't think anything ever from the committee, not sure if there was even a social media thank you. Others may be better informed than me, but my understanding is that Morgan and O'Conner didn't get along too well, still had a civil working relationship though, but in addition to that, the overriding reason I was told was that Morgan felt threatened for his own coaching position by O'Conners success and also the loyalty of the colts players to him and also alot of the senior players too. There were definitelty rumblings from senior players that they weren't happy with Morgans coaching

Interesting I was talking to few Souths boys during the week who played under Dammers/O’Connor regime & also played under Morgan.
They said the difference in culture was night and day.

Dammers/O’Connor were about building the club & developing players. Morgan was about himself & his success. Burnt players with that attitude.

Worth noting one of the boys I spoke to said at the time he was critical of Dammers as he was hard on him as a players
ut when he had an injury this season, the first call he got was from Dammers from Chicago to check in.

Souths management have allowed some crazy calls to be made by GM due to personal insecurities, none more puzzling than the sacking of O’Connor, Samoa and the immensely successful & popular 2nd Grade Coach Nick Foley.

Souths look a different club in 2025 than what they did in 2022. The 2022 was stocked with young up and coming talent. They have now all departed to chase success at other clubs… Such a shame for the Magpies.
