Wallabies 2025 Spring Tour

The problem with joining a discussion late MT. It was Adam84 who suggested Meredith's form in SRAus wouldn't warrant selection. I was merely responding to that comment.
BR, I was just responding to your comment that it was ‘worth noting Meredith has 17 wins from Super Rugby matches’ dating back to 2023, and you asked which other 5/8 had that kind of record.

In 4 of those 17 wins he didn’t even get in the field, and in another 8 he played less than 10mins off the bench. If you’re going to reference that then surely Super Rugby Aus form/results warrants a mention.

mate - you just hate the Brumbies

lol… I mean, 9 Brumbies from this years squad are automatically in my Wallabies match-day 23(assuming all fit) so don’t think I hate them.

Just think there’s some slight hysterics and bias going on about fly half commentary at the moment

If we've seen anything in recent times, both 10s on a team are going to get decent minutes, and until the business end we won't even know who coaches think is their #1 option.

Brumbies had Lolesio money available, so got a Lolesio replacement
True, but I'd argue if you had full faith in the next guy in the squad to wear the 10 jersey that money would have been used in other spots throughout the squad.

End of the day, the Brumbies maintained depth in that position which could be vital come the pointy end of the year.

He was moved down the pecking order twice prior to his injury, and was left out of the squad for a guy that couldn't start for his Super team once he was healthy

Now a Rugby League player is coming in ahead of him after playing 2 games in 2 years coming off a career threatening injury. At this point there is probably a subbies 10 running around with more of a shot than Donno
Are you Donaldson's dad? You're definitely all in on the guy.

No, I said he had a shocker in the Super Rugby Aus final. I like him, but I'm always happy to admit when he's poor

The coaches obviously have no interest in him, so i don't know why people keep including him as an option. I'd be surprised if he ever gets another test for the Wallabies

I really like Donaldson also and have him ahead of Tane & Tom, but agree he has had some pretty average performances and is missing consistency, as they all are…. but the coaches don’t like him for whatever reason

Hard to tell if some of the Reds guys have been left out just because they'll get time against Panasonic, but this is maybe an indicator that De Lutiis (edit: might actually be injured) and Ross will be with the wallabies squad.

surprised Burey not named

Our last Wallabies squad included O'Connor and Stewart so I think there's a reasonable chance Burey will be named in the main squad.

That squad had 15 backs. If we named 16?

Gordon, Lonergan, Thomas
Edmed, Lynagh, Gordon
Ikitau, Paisami, Sua'ali'i
Jorgensen, Daugunu, Kellaway, Potter, Toole, Pietsch, Burey

I would assume Kellaway and Pietsch are both right to return.

I know I made a comment yesterday about Burey being selected in Super Au form. And credit to him for playing well in that comp. But it was tongue in cheek. We don’t seriously think he’s getting picked for the Wallabies do we? He was a bench player at best when everyone at the Force was fit.

I would have thought he makes this Australia A squad so there's a level of curiosity there in my view.

The likelihood would certainly be missing selection altogether though. He's obviously not old at 26 but he's older than the other candidates to play 10.

And a bloke with 2 games 10 in the last two seasons.

He was in great form to finish the SS season and player of Super Rugby Aus but it would feel like a panic button being smashed if he's suddenly in the running for the Wallabies 10 given he's not been involved before.

If Burey makes it, it'll be as a 15 covering 10, rather than an out and out 10 candidate. If he was to be picked as a 10 that covers 15 it wouldn't make much sense to (potentially) leave Donaldson behind, who would have to be ahead of him in that role.

I get some logic to casting a wide net at this time - but we really aren’t going to chop and change at test level. If they want to see what a guy like that has got then include him in the A squad. But there isn’t any sign that I’ve seen that he is significant upside on the guys that they have already given exposure to.

I mean - credit where it’s due - he played really well in Super AU and he can only play who the other team runs out but Super Au is a big step down.
