Rugby Championship 2025: Wallabies v Argentina

So - again - we have a great outcome where we win it at the death well into injury time and the first reaction of some on here is to bag individual players???

On the flip side - what an incredible turnaround in the perception of Harry Wilson.

For my part - Joe deserves credit for his selections. It is sliding doors whether a few things would have worked out differently with some individual selections and we are still very much a work in progress but, overall, this is the best a Wallabies team has looked for a long time and the fact guys can come in on the back of injuries and fit in seamlessly is a credit to Joe and the coaching staff.

So, let's get the good bit out of the way, excellent win against all thrown dice.
Breakdown remains weak, with little support for McRight and no attempts at counter ruck. Harry stayed out of most of them ?????
Defence was poor to lousy in the first half, if we let them run again in Sydney, all bets are off.
Some heroic efforts in our 10m area but could easily have gone the other way.
Generally our structure, focus and dealing with loose ball poor, I don't think we won one ball that was contestable on the ground. To finish we were beaten in the air on most occasions.
As they say, plenty to work on, but can we take our easy penalties and stop rolling this dice, AB's will punish us for this hairy fairy BS.

Great to see another impressive 2nd half
We do need to make a better start though soon can’t keep coming back
Positive as the wallabies struggled throughout the game but found a way
Big decision from Wilson to go for the try instead of take the draw

lynagh was certainly off his game and tupou did some dumb things
Need to bring back slipper and AAA next week
Valetini was a lot quiter then he had been perhaps the day time and warmer conditions
Onto next week

I’m not a fan of Paul Williams - but hats off to him for being prepared to change his decision on the Tate quick tap. I reckon there are a few refs who wouldn’t.
I reckon every ref would have gone back immediately. He literally blew his whistle twice. He only went back because he was advised to by his assistant ref. Anyways there was just general chaos from him all game.

Just on selections I thought Hooper repaid the faith of putting him in at lock. I know he plays plenty of lock for the Brumbies and it’s not like he doesn’t have the size for it - hardly the biggest leap of faith ever by Schmidt - but still a bit against the broader consensus and he turned in another good display.

I’m a Salakai-Loto fan but I think he’s going to have to bide his time.

Defensively we are so weird. We leak points in first halves like it’s going out of fashion and then keep them tryless in the 2nd. Almost like it takes us 30 minutes to get our bearings. If only we could put it together for the whole game.
Wouldn't it be a change to lead start to finish. While I love the grit to run down the result we also need to learn how to lead and dictate play from the front.

Another very strong second half effort which got the win. Seems we're never out of the game these days.. Hopefully another win next week to consolidate the world ranking.

I sincerely hope Joe reinstates JOC (James O'Connor) to the starting side. We look a whole lot better with him directing play. And either Donaldson or Edmed off the bench.

Fullback is another dicey spot for us. AK (Andrew Kellaway) is still not cutting it with the many errors he made at the back. Just think Jorgo would be better and bring Potter or Daugunu in on the wing.

JAS had a better game but I'm surprised how easy it appears to be to throw him off balance. Maybe to do with a high centre of gravity?

So more AB than Eales.

That actually seems pretty accurate.

Even giving Tupou a bit of a tune up like AB giving McDermott a spray (without telling him he’d be on the next plane home).
Think he’s probably friendlier but yes. Eales had to pull together high achievers into a goal. Not saying Wilson can’t do that but this is a side in its development era and needs a bit of follow me or fuck off.

This also relies on Coaches to have this and back it.
