This is where I disagree and why I'm a fan of Donaldson. As a ball player and attacking threat he has what the others don't. He has the ability to step anyone and break away for a long range try, you can't teach that. And it's something no other 10 in Australia has

In my opinion that's the kind of 10 Australia needs. I find is asinine that we try and play this kick heavy northern hemisphere game when our strength (and instinct) clearly lies in our outside backs with the ball in their hand
It used to be our strengths. But modern rugby is a kicking focused game.

Agree. Donaldson would have learnt more going to a Kiwi franchise than biding his early years at the dud Waratahs.

Shame to see our point of difference and power runners out
Skelton for size
Valetini - best backrower
And backup Gleeson out

can’t see us getting any here - 3 massive losses to the forward pack

It's not a team that will worry the Lions too much on paper and I do have some grave fears for the result, but they'll rip in and you never know. If it's close at the end of the game we could have the blokes on the bench to bring it home.

Yes, Tom, I was plugging Donaldson copping criticism when all others kept plugging Noah. If Australia wants to be a dominant force in rugby again, we need a flyhalf with all the skills including athleticism, a second row that commands the same respect as Etzebeth, a hooker that can throw and make meters (if only Pollard could throw better though he has improved), a backrow that can get over the advantage line and able to run until their legs drop off. An inside center or fullback that can slip into fly half with ease, two props that won't get pushed off the ball at the set peace yet can push other teams off the ball. An outside center with speed, a great passing game and can push over the advantage line and a back three with speed, size and vision. All backs and forwards able to defend. This does not say Donaldson has all the attributes required currently but of what we have got, he is definitely the most athletic, has a big boot on him and his goal kicking has improved substantially. Based on what I have said above, the cattle we currently have are likely to be battling between 5th to 9th place on the international rankings for some time. I hope Lynagh goes well and proves me wrong and the team proves me wrong, however I am not sure we have the cattle for this and I think the Lions are far better prepared. Just my thoughts. How the Tahs could of let the Scottish/Lions inside center along with his younger brother go I would never know.

Jeez they're going to put 30 on us aren't they?
Man by man, they are much stronger. With a basic South African tactic of pick and go, they should win easily. The Wallabies MUST be a better team, something they haven't been able to be for a loooooong time. Plus, the halves duo will be playing their first game together...

AND HE SANG AS HE STOWED THAT JUMBUCK IN HIS TUCKER BAG
Howdy all, a few Thursday thoughts as I ride horseback through the Kosciuszko ranges - I think Schmidt has nailed the read on the Lions vulnerabilities by clearly choosing a JACKAL heavy team (starting xv & subs) as well as the best general-play kicker in Lynagh. Not surprised to see SKELTON / TUPOU omitted from the 23 given SCHMIDT has probably picked the fittest 23 to handle the back and forth of the kick contest. The key areas for Wallabies will be breakdown & set-piece DISCIPLINE and ability to manage the Lions counter attack (which has been excellent so-far this tour). The Wallabies will need to channel some Lang Park spirit if they are going to pull this one off.

Is it the case that Valetini, Skelton and Gleeson all made it through a full season of first team duties at club level without significant injury and then picked up training injuries with the Wallabies?
bob missed a fair whack of the year early for the brums mate
