NSW AAGPS 2025 (banter and commentary)

Maul of Duty

Considering that it was reckless (not intentional - but most cards come from this) from the tackler and incredibly painful for Callaghan (E) who almost left the field, I think a card is in order. Doing that is how ankles & knees are done and literal bones are snapped, we have seen it all before.

Time stamp is 24:35.

Watching the game I do think that NC was putting a lot of targeting pressure on the returners (Wendt, Callaghan) which is all good football, and underlines how other teams are acknowledging the threat they pose. Callaghan did have his spark, hard to touch with the ball and setting up Shore's only try with true skill off their own kick off.

An overall opinion of that game; Newington played strong, Shore played weak. I think Newington should win the premiership this year (good ROI), and they played a great game especially with their back line, who broke through almost every time the ball reached 12. On the other hand, Shore played one of their poorer games this year. Riddled with errors and missing some leadership (Galligan), it's a bit of a wakeup call for the reigning premiers. A loss against Scots was accounted for by missing players and playing a winning game until after the buzzer, and a loss against Joeys was accounted for with 'it's round 1 against Joeys' and they were missing key players. Against New I can't find one of those reasons for a 42 point margin. HOWEVER, I think the boys do have it in them to pull back the season, they have the spark, talent and points of excellence to reel back the pack. This weekend against View will be an important game, and a thriller.

My favourite player to watch this round from Shore was Hockey on the wing, running the ball hard and fast, putting plenty of boys on their bums, definitely one to watch as one of the hardest ball-running backs. From Newington I can't go past King at no 10, lining his backs up nicely to put them over plenty of times.

Twister.
Newington were definitely the more dominant side. Scrums were not great through. Not enough go forward from Shore and Newington gave away a few scrum penalties for angling in. Looking forward to seeing the big lads in action on Thursday. From the look of the field, get out the 21mm studs boys

Joeys v Scots may not enter this round as the spectacle it can be, but both teams feel like they are teetering.

Iv'e picked Joeys by 15 because a lot of the talk about the SJC weakness is a lack of size in the pack. From what iv'e seen of Scots, the pack isn't scary or powerful in the set piece and Joeys can match it. With that they can let their structure and ball play flow. If their defence can hold firm they can put them away and have the season well and truly back on track.

With Scots not having yet played Newington, if they drop this one I can hear the fat lady warming up.

bollocks mate whilst scots had a shocker on the weekend they have much more to show which theyve done in previous weekends and not saying joeys will get a flogging but a loss by 15 would be at the least unprecedented

Hmm....reading that law is pretty vague. And it's entirely subjective. Law needs to be more prescriptive. FWIW I hate those types of tackles. Still think dishing out a yellow card was absolutely ridiculous. Mind you this guys interpretations of the law over recent games have baffled many
TKS #1 was sin binned when they played View for same type tackle against View #7.

Was lucky enough to watch Shore Vs Grammar yesterday.
Grammar started well, they had a clear tactical game of kicking to corners and winning field position. They did this perfectly at the start frustrating the shore team. In the second half Shore were way too good, with their backs dominating Grammar. Concerning signs for Grammar but promising for Shore

Don't know is unprecedented would be the term as Scots just lost by 15 on the weekend.

Joeys are getting a lot of grief off the back of two losses but only went down to Newington by 1 who everyone is glowing about...

I have some insider information towards some players from SHORE. Some Seconds XV maybe First XV, have used performance enhancing drugs such as, steriods.
Shore has a proud rugby tradition—built on discipline, teamwork, and decades of hard-fought respect in the GPS competition. But recent whispers about steroid use among some players threaten to stain that legacy. Using performance-enhancing drugs isn’t just cheating—it’s dangerous. It sends the wrong message to younger boys who look up to 1st XV players, turning rugby from a game of character into a competition of shortcuts. Steroids don’t just boost muscle—they destroy fairness, endanger health, and undermine the hard work of clean athletes.Shore rugby should be about earning your spot, not injecting your way there. If the team wants to win with integrity, it starts by calling this out—not staying silent.

Considering Shore has the smallest forward packs in the GPS, I find this hard to believe.
