I think that would be a terrible shame and would be the end for rugby at Alo's. At least with new format they will finish the season with three potential reasonable match ups with ISA schools like Kinross & Pius. However, I fear they will struggle to get within 50 points in their coming CAS games.

Game Report: Aloys vs Cranbrook (7–64)

Cranbrook dominated the scoreboard in a crushing 64–7 win over Aloys, but the match wasn't without controversy. From the opening whistle, the officiating raised eyebrows, with a string of one-sided calls that heavily favoured Cranbrook. Aloys struggled to build momentum as several promising plays were halted by questionable penalties. Despite the lopsided result, Aloys showed grit under pressure and moments of strong defence, but the biased refereeing made it an uphill battle from the start.

Absolutely nothing to do with the refereeing. Cranbrook left plenty of points out there. Could easily been 80 point win.

yeah, CAS clearly not suiting them, they wouldnt be too bad in ISA and yeah should be good for them at the end of the year. The thing that stood out to me watching yesterday was there pack was serverley undersized, being dominated through the middle and making it very hard for them to find any means of footing.

I think u may find the school focus on exam results over the past 10 years has seen an influx of students with less sporting interests. Having said that I believe the year 10, 9 and 8 age groups appear to have some talent and are being nurtured closely to ensure competitiveness in the next few years. Perhaps some well considered scholarships should be offered to encourage some rugny talent into the programme. Much like the rest of CAS appear to have at their disposal.

After watching the Cranbrook aloys game, I can confidently say that they have a genuine shot at the CAS title. their challenge is playing the full game as the dominant side rather than 1 half. We've seen this play out against Newington where Cranbrook were the better side in the first half and then confidently beaten in the second, And now again at Alo's with the second half having double the points scored then in the first on cranbooks end. if they can string together a full 70 minutes of this kind of quality they can smash even the best CAS teams.

A great performance from cranbooks flanker Aymeric Schmidt who is consistently belting blokes in defence and running the ball hard. Cranbrooks 13
has also consistently put in performances with a good try against newington and again 2 against aloys with one being punched out over the line which would have been his hatrick.

Cranbrook have something about them this year,

You will see why I question Trinity's depth:
Waverley 4ths played Sydney Boys 1sts and 5ths played the 2nds, C's in 16's must have had a terrific game vs the Trinity C's with a soccer score and the D's in 13's and 14's played Trinity C's.
I want to see more rugby played at schools and hope that not only Trinity but other schools push the program.

Hello Snort, I always look forward to your astute opinion!

In this case I do think you are a bit too sterile/lawyer like in your assessments, and you well know that I mean no harm, it's just my view.

All of your counter positions are quite possible BUT rather lemonade imo, as in real life, YES it could be that way, but more often not as simplistic.

I did have a rant on the AAGPS thread about the ref, based on a Waverley teachers view. who I know well, and assuming the penalties to Trinity were 20+ it is understandable to think one team got wiped out of the game. Yes it could have been the Waves team fault, but I did also hear very reliably that Trinity did a great job being on the boarder line of being off side much of the match, and as such, they were able to bustle the Waves all night long. What does need to be acknowledged is that Refs are human and do make mistakes, to suggest everything is the fault of the losing side is incorrect. Being a ref, as I have always said, is extremely difficult, and most often unrewarding, so cut them a LOT of slack.

Bottom line in regards to this game, I did also speak to a number of parents in the 1sts team who all said the same.
The Waves clearly thought they would turn up and win BUT Trinity turned up AND wanted to win, and Trinity deserved to win.
Thus the final result, and you know I know that from 1979!

The comp is now wide open, an astute comment made by the Ghost of R/View man, he is right.
I do suspect that Barker now have it to lose after this round BUT beware the wounded Wave!

I watched the game - Waverley were undone by penalties. That number you mentioned includes the five short-arm calls for Trinity’s lineout throws. The final penalty count was 17–5, and it easily could’ve been in the 20s if the ref hadn’t played advantage on a few.

Waverley’s discipline has always been their Achilles' heel. They’ll march you up the field all day. Though Waverley unlucky not to get a few more penalties too, and a couple given are unique to say the least.

That said, it’s hard to see Trinity threatening any top sides when they rack up that many penalties and still only scrape a five-point win.

So let’s settle down, Trinity supporters - you won’t get handed the next two games by teams that actually know how to control their discipline.

2nds Cranbrook won by a mile against Aloys, good hit back from them after taking a few beatings.

As a loyal sideline warrior at the Trinity Jungle game (a.k.a. Foreshore), I witnessed what can only be described as a masterclass in chaos from the Waverley Seconds. Last year, multiple boys in the team were walking around with Gen Blue stitched to their chests like it was a superhero badge shame no one told them they actually had to play like it. The 8 and 10 in particular were putting on a highlight reel… for all the wrong reasons. Yes, they won, technically but it looked more like they were scrapping with each other than the opposition. If Waverley’s hoping to build anything resembling depth in the lower grades, they might want to swap the ego for actual teamwork. Just a thought gawry and grant.

Couldn't agree more, having been at the game if you had of told me that there were 3 prominent gen blue players in that seconds team I would have laughed. Not one of them showed and brilliance or skill in any aspect of the game apart from trying to start needless niggle and banter. Cant say a lot for the 8 after he got a little too cocky and decided to run straight off a tap before getting monstered by the trinity 3 which i'm sure hurt his ego.
