Queensland Reds 2025

Reds announcement does have (a bit) more detail this time:

Head contact processes for Lynagh, "shoulder knock" for Salakaia-Loto, "knee" for Uru. No timelines but Lynagh and Salakia-Loto sound like just the week, Christy had a few weeks for Uru on the espn podcast I think.
14 players on the injury list.

Hodgman and Gibbon have spent way too much time on the injury list this year.

On the one hand it shows the value of the additional depth this year that we aren’t running out clubbies.

On the flip side having 10 Wallabies on the injured list certainly takes a lot of the punch away which could be costly over the next 3 weeks.

Anyway - it’s part of footy and at least guys like Bryant, Brial & HMP are getting time in the saddle.

But not as nearly match defining as Liam Wright, Harry Wilson, & Tom Lynaugh!

Reds seem to be carrying a few perenially injured players atm. Surely they'll be looking to cut a few loose?

It is not injuries that drive this. We picked up a host from the disbandonment of the Rebels which is a situation that is not sustainable. Certainly not under the salary cap. Reds are far from their own. There will be cuts..

Of course, if you have not proven yourself and have been out of most of the season with injury, well you are going to make the list when cuts are being considered.

Looks like Blyth is heading to the tahs:
WHILE there will be some key departures from the Waratahs at the end of the season, they’ve moved to bolster their forward pack by poaching lock Angus Blyth from Queensland.

Blyth is set to join former Wallabies Matt Philip and Pete Samu in a revamped NSW pack next year, ensuring the team will have an influx of experience.

Disappointing to lose both him and Smith at once, but not entirely unexpected that he would move on. good to see he's staying Aus. Uru re-signing even more important now.

Blythe has started 3 games so far this year. He will be getting starter money from the Tahs, and bench money from the Reds
On the off chance that he's up for a (small) RA top up, he'll likely need to move for it too. RA would (or at least should) balk at topping up 3 locks in one side long term (pretty sure Canham got something small when he signed for the Reds).

A pairing of Vest and Uru scares me. Would be close to the shortest locking combination in Super Rugby.

If we lose Blyth, we need to be bringing in another as one injury to Lukhan or Canham sets us back considering.

Disappointing if we can't retain Blyth, absolutely criminal that the Tahs get more lifelines. I sure as hell don't remember RA coming to our aid during the dark years of 06 - 2009 or 2016+.

Think it's a lifeline or Blyth thinking he can get a start where he rides the pine in QLD? Not everything has to be blamed on someone else.

Reds roster also have 6 Test capped front rowers with another arriving and De Luttis likely to become one by the start of next season so 8. Of course there will be movement within the squad.

I'm intrested in the future of Liam Wright. Hard position for all sides given his body but he was also a Wallaby Captain a year ago.

No idea what his contract situation is but I've said it before and I'll say it again, we should be moving heaven and earth to get Hockings back, especially considering we now only have two out and out locks in the squad.

There's more than enough quality Aussie timber floating around. Issue is Reds have to pay for it. I doubt they have any budget for a good lock with Canham/Salakaia-Loto. Development spot it is.

Isn’t he about to be rolled out for the Cherry Blossoms?
