A sobering fact...

Sydney Grammar School still has the most International Captains, Wallaby Captains and strongest all-time First XV out of all Australian schools. Not Joeys.

SGS way more greats than SJC, true rugby historians know...

Sydney Grammar All-time 1st XV:
-9 SGS International Captains (7 Wallaby Captains, 1 England, 1 Scotland) vs 3 Joeys International Captains (3 Wallaby Captains)
-100m sprint Olympian Wallaby (!) on Wing (Slip Carr)
-rest all Wallabies (31 total)
-Has Col Windon, Alex Ross, Johnnie Wallace, Alfred Walker and so much more
Interested to see this 'strongest all-time 1st XV out of all Australian schools', not least because according the the Wiki page of notable Old Sydneians, Grammar 1st XV has produced exactly ONE Wallaby (Jack Maddocks, 2017) in the last 67 years.

Before Maddocks you need to go back to David Emmanuel in 1958. Grammar claims Julian Huxley (2007) on the back of Huxley attending their St Ives prep school, but he went to high school at TKS.

In the vast majority of cases Grammar's Wallabies were capped nearly 100 years (or more) ago, so it takes quite the imagination to claim they have the strongest all-time 1st XV.

Sydney Grammar has a wealth of young talent coming through. The Grammar 16As are better than the twos and pretty much on par with the ones. From what I heard, the 16As beat the twos 61-17 in training and lost to the ones 32-30. This just shows the quality of the young ones. Also a little fact for you, this current 16As team is the only team in GPS history to go 3 years undefeated. Watch out in 2027 comp
The only team in Grammar history perhaps? I didn’t lose a game in 6 years at Joeys and I know plenty of people who can say the same thing.

Would be wonderful to see a resurgence of rugby at Grammar, and High for that matter. Unfortunately unlikely in my lifetime.
Good luck to this bodacious 16s team, will watch the 3rd XV comp in next couple of years with interest as Grammar remains competitive there

It’s the 15s age group who have a winning record and even they have lost matches. 16s are definitely not undefeated. 2 years ago, they beat most C teams. Last year, they generally lost to B teams.

Very selective bias in the reporting but could show they will be competitive in a 3rd XV comp since they can match with others Cs. They have 2-3 players that could make other Schools As another 5-6 at B standard but then 5-6 that are D standard. This is the issue with anyone playing the what-if game about going higher. To be a good 2nd XV your need 4-5 guys in that side that are 1st XV standard and just unlucky

And that is the issue for a number of Grammar teams, that in the older age groups, you tend to be defined by your weaker players rather than your stronger ones. Plus a couple of injuries and the team can change from solid to average.

Will be interesting to see those top players going for GPS representative teams in the future.

Between 1988-1992 the Joeys 1st XV did not lose a game.

BTW Scots also claim him. I taught him in the Prep School. Great athlete. Was a phenomenal cricketer as well

This is false. Jack Maddocks played at Scots college and graduated in 2017

Jack Maddocks went to Scots...

Geez they just scraped through in 1988, as the score was 6-3 Joeys to View. I don't know if school got closer to beating Joeys that year?

Credit where credit is due though, well done Joeys.

High and Scots (if I recall correctly). But 1993 scots utilized many (the term that must not be named) players for their centenary year methinks.

Scots were an unusually large side in 1993.
