I hear all sorts of things about how the NRL club/GPS rugby relationship works but it's all second or third hand so hard to know what's true. On the face of it, it seems NRL clubs can dictate to some extent when boys whose fees they are subsidising can train and play for their schools.
I wonder how these agreements are made. Any contract would presumably be between the club and the boy's guardian, who would then inform the school when the boy could train or play for them.
In an ideal world the school would say, 'Thanks but no thanks, we're only going to select players who are available for every game'. Instead it seems (some) schools are ceding to such stipulations, presumably for the sake of success.
Is it really that simple? And where does it end? Where is the line in the sand for some schools when it comes to availability?

A stronger Barker team coming out victorious. This is what I expected. Barker played risky rugby giving lots of possession to Shore, although they held most of the possession. Shore showed exceptional grit however which impressed me. For a team who got flogged by Waverley, they have bounced back exceptionally well and I think when Callaghan, Bassingthwaite and Wendt all return the Prem is not far out of sight for them. Barker however were 100% the stronger team and it showed in the final minutes. Well done to both teams.

Hamilton has been in all the shore GPS teams and has played well in all teams especially when coming off the bench in the 1st’s has really stepped up

Strong Barker side taking the win at Allianz stadium, although Barker won by 19, the score does not reflect on the performance by Shore. Throughout the first 50 minutes of the game, Shore was putting up a good fight even without crucial players due to injury. It all went down after the devastating yellow and injury of number 8. Once Shore is healthy once again, they may be a strong contender for a back to back prem. A shout out to the crowd from Barker and Shore, filling a small section of the stadium but still ringing an echo in the stands. Great Job from both teams.

Without addressing any other pros/cons of the shore side, I want to address the front row.
I counted 4+ penalties given away by Shore off scrums, and I am sure there was more. The size difference compared to the Barker front row was obvious once they stood side by side, and even more obvious in the scrums and malls.
I am going to be harsh - but I think fair… Green must go, the hooker must go (I don’t have a name).
For me, Jarrett proved his worth in this game and has solidified his position. This creates a juggle for the other prop position - between Armati and Hamilton. Both incredible players that both deserve the position, and have that size boost they need - especially with Armati.
This hooker issue is also sorted, with Garner coming in to save us. He had some minutes tonight and played fantastic, including a try for Shore.
I would also like to tip my hat to Galligan, carried the ball hard and fast, as well as putting his shoulder to work on some BIG Barker boys.

A try on HT and FT made the score line favour Baker - look the better team won but was closer than the score board.
A few options for Shore to shape up their set piece scrum and line outs only need to look into 2’s pack as their set piece has looked solid (prop and second row) - wonder who dominates at training…..
Equally kickers need to kick the ball out when going for touch.
Great to see both schools have a decent crowd on show.

Even last season the kicking game of Bassingthwaite and Callaghan was easily the best. Shore definitely missing them.
And both had a decent number stick around for the Tahs.. who looked OK till the rain set in.
So last years GPS Champs have lost to Cranbrook, Knox and Barker in subsequent weeks. A slow start like last year or just a different team?

Slow start, yes. Different team also yes. However there is improvement each week and I see hope. As I’ve mentioned a lot, getting Callaghan and Bassingthwaite back will be the piece in the puzzle they are needing. However the front row does need some serious work.

Knox and Barker are good but Cranbrook…. Strange one to lose to them and I can’t see it just being a blip with the way View handled and dismissed (36/0 & 64/0) them in 1sts and 2nds at Cranbrook.
Might be missing some key guys but Shore are conceding points.

Moa999, correction, I don't believe Shore have played Cranbrook, happy to be corrected but the other CAS school that Shore have lost to is the Waves 40-7 a few weeks ago. That would be the 3 CAS schools they have played so far this year.
