I guess it always helps when rapey rugby is setting up shop nearby!
And the government is kicking in a bit as well
In all honesty: Parra Eels have been the most accommodating hosts despite us being "the other game".
I was down there meeting the ground manager one day, and on the way back to the car, the staff invited me in for a lunch they'd organised. I had a good chat with the community liaison - they deal with all the RL clubs in their catchment and still find time for us. Even got in a quick chat with Scott Wisemantel who is coaching there now.
We've previously hosted games of Schools and Subbies rugby as a neutral venue and Parra presented no obstacle to that. Very rarely they've taken priority over the ground due to clashes (and then only due to bad weather) and we're mature enough to understand where we sit in this; our presence serves the greater good for us, and for them i.e. ticking the "community" box in the eyes of the government
I think they also appreciate the fact we don't kick up a stink and make the relationship fractious - all of us understand that the small rugby union club is in no position to be pricks. Compare this to the balance they have to strike with Rugby League clubs in their district who could easily cause a stink by punching upwards.
It is entirely possible that more people know who the Renegades are at Parra Eels than at NSW Rugby...
