J, Your suggestion of these 2 winning sides playing each other is a topic widely discussed every year, and before a big game in a big venue would be terrific!

As an aside, that years Joeys side was a cracker, as was the View side.
In the CAS the Waves, Barker, both had cracker sides, Knox and Cranbrook were also strong.

Here's some relative performance that may have indicated who would have played in a GPS/CAS decider in 2021.

Barker just beat Joeys.
View just beat Barker.
Joeys just beat Knox.
Knox just beat View.

Waves put 50 on a solid Kings side at Kings, and comfortably beat Newington and Shore, in fact they won all 8 games that they played prior to Covid killing the season.

The only direct comparison could be drawn in the fact that Waves thumped a full Knox side 38-14 (Knox also scored and converted on the bell).

We will never know, but I am sure your concept would be very widely applauded.

In a recent interview, John Reading (ex Joeys 1st XV coach and winner of 3 titles) noted that Joeys have never played St Joseph's Nudgee. It would take some organizing but I would love to see a tournament involving all winning schools in Australia play in a schools carnival like we see in the Aus Schools Championships.

Here are my contenders.
Winners of these school rugby competitions would play.

ISA
QLD Associated Independent Colleges
QLD GPS
Victorian Schools Rugby Union

It would be an incredible experience.

Only issue here @Joker would be year 12 boys going to do their HSCs, with many schools having their trial exams the week after the GPS comp finishes.

The seven boys wish to stay anonymous to the seasons curtains opens but I think a few names have slipped through the word of mouth including the like of Tom Symons, Paddy Philip’s and Samuel Bulldozer (got a run in the 1st XV) who played for the Riverview 2 XV, and might I add put on a bit of a show.

Definitely a year group from the blue and white to keep your eyes on.

Yes my understanding is both Joeys and Riverview are incredibly strong in the 16 age group.

Who were the 10 12 and 13 in the Shore 2nd XV yesterday. I thought they worked quite well together. They look like a decent team. Backline was good defensively.

The 10 was Noah Quayle, 12 was Tully Robertson and the 13 was Max Brownie

Good point Squidlips. Shore’s kicking game always develops later. I’m personally a massive advocate for kicking (despite the strict instructions of the rugby traditionalists) and without a good kicking game you will win nothing. Lets hope they can whip it into shape.

Here in lies a fundamental problem in Australian rugby commentary! We expect our kicking game to be outstanding on the back of a shit platform, static ball with no breakdown dominance combined with ineffective forward carries that do not bend the line to create front foot ball, big difference between attacking and defensive kicking

Yes in the opens playing in NZL these holidays.

It appears that a significant number of U16 players from both Joeys and View may not be playing in club rugby this year. Mosman may not be fielding a U16 team, and if so, increasingly unlikely that Norths will be represented at the State Championships, which would be a travesty given the strong performances of this age group in recent years.

It is a shame that many boys who have played club rugby all their lives have suddenly stopped, as in the 16s age group, the club rugby pathway to play in Waratahs academies is much less regarded than the school pathway.

I am once more happy to do this job. I have time on my hands as I am now medically retired.
In the past this has been a lot of fun and each year we see winners come from many backgrounds.
Last year it was a schoolboy who won (won't reveal the school)

In 2025 I am though deleting tippers who miss three rounds in a row.
When this happens I will invite those who missed out to join and they will start with the points of the deleted tipper.

For those new here I hope this explains this.

With only three games each week I devised a system where players can score more
This is achieved by using margins.
Various margins are worth points.

Points break down.

Lose- 0

Win- 3 points if your margin is BELOW +5 of the final score

Win- 5 points if your margin is ABOVE and WITHIN the +5

Win- 10 points you pick the margin exactly

DRAW- 20 points If you select a draw

Headbutt- chose Scots +25 (0 points)

Guppy- chose High +10 (3 points, a win but below the margin)

Muppet- chose High +26 (5 points, win within +5 of the margin)

Fluke- chose High +22 (10 points, win with the exact margin)

Maximum you can score in one week is 30 points. These margins come in handy as you can run down leaders or make a break. Plus is you fail to get your tips in you are given by default the away teams with no margin.

it's not just Sydney, it is the regional areas as well, here in Far North Coast we are struggling for numbers to even get a 4-team competition up and running. One club is asking that 5 18-year-olds get dispensation to play u16 so they can field a team, one club doesn't have any forwards so will be going uncontested scrums.... there are some fantastic players up this part of the world who are missed by both NSW & Qld selectors...

I believe that Mosman didn't field a team in the gala trials.

I also heard that Newport have asked for C grade as all their Barker and Auggies star players are no longer playing club rugby.
