Chiefs v Reds, Hamilton 5.05 PM AEDST 4th April

Wilson

John Eales (66)
Could only do highlights this morning for this one.

Did they check the kick challange just before halftime that led to Brial's try? I'll take it, but It seemed a bit....... fortuitous?
Yeah, had a quick look and were happy it was back off the Chiefs player. Didn't show any extra angles during the broadcast though.

Good to see the big dogs straight back into it.

Wilson 15 carries and 18 tackles

McReight 23 tackles
McReight still with a bit of shoulder soreness seemed to keep (relatively) contained. Wilson was an absolute monster in this game from go to whoa. Aside from all the work he did on both sides of the ball it's the 2nd game in a row he's put that kicking license to good use and we've ended up with a try.

From a Reds perspective, Brial has been performing at a high level and having consistent impacts on the game. Definitely gives me comfort that we have adequate coverage with him and Uru for the 6 and 8 position.

He's been very impressive, I reckon last night was his best game for the Reds.
I think he's knocked Bryant down the pecking order a notch.

Finally got to watch the game this morning.

Not an unexpected result but disappointing none the less. Even more so I think because the Reds blew some absolute chances. HMP was pretty good but the dropped ball was costly. Likewise Fraser dropping the pill cold early on and the driving maul that splintered when McDermott rolled the dice while JTA (Jeffery Toomaga-Allen) was still off the field. Weather didn’t help - but the Chiefs had to deal with it too and just did a better job in the end.

On the flip side I feel like the Reds can fix a lot of the issues. The biggest consistent one is the lineout - but a lot of the problems do seem fixable and, if we get this right, it should make a 10-15 point difference. Hilton was clearly pissed so I’m sure it’ll be a big focus this week.

Generally defence was pretty bloody good but, in the end, just gave up too much ball in attack.

Brumbies game becomes very important to try to keep competing for a spot in the top 2. Really going that the rain predicted for the week is pretty light or goes away completely so we get a dry track (although the Reds should be pretty used to playing in the wet now).

I think we really miss Flook as well for attacking balance. He seems to make the right play 90% of the time or be Johnny on the spot to collect a pass. That game was very winnable if were a little more settled in attack imho.
I think Flook is more important to the team that his stats may reflect.

I see him as an Anthony Faaingaa type player, he may not be the best player in the team, but when he is missing you realise how bloody important he is. Jock is similar in when he is missing you realise the value he brings to the team.
