Wallabies v Lions - 3rd Test, Accor Stadium, Saturday 2 August

I wonder if that tells us all we need to know about league forwards?

    That explains a lot Strewth.

R-AU, I think he will be on the bench in SA if Lynagh recovers and ditto Lolesio.

I played against Ray Price a few times. He single handedly showed a new way for a backrower to play. Instead of diving on the ball and setting it up as most BR's did in those days, he bent down, without slowing, picked the ball up and kept going. Amazing skill set for an amateur player in those...

Maybe a bit more to defend my post. He was often at the back taking the ball and running it up, thus the metres gained. At one point, he wound up only to slow a bit before contact. As he doesn't have the weight or impact of BobbyV or Hooper, he strikes me as a guy who's neither a big hard 8, nor...

Agree. Also, it was already obvious, prior to test #1, that we needed some form of a rush D to control them.

I thought he was a league player?

Yes he has good skills but that ain't enough for a Wallaby 8. His breakdown work is average; can't remember him getting a turnover or instigating a counter ruck. His biggest problem is he makes no impact on the opposition D, gets flattened every time.

Agree, and makes me wonder about our ability to judge if a player can step up or not. Losing him is a big loss, as he won't be eligible for OS inclusion in RWC.

DC, I felt a bit like that, but then my logic kicked in and I wondered what I would want if I were in the crowd. I thought an announcement regarding him being OK might have been a nice touch.

No we have been here before, buying league players who took 2 seasons to get the basics of union. Better to find or build our own and hold them, not easy but essential. By find I mean young athletes before the NRL comes sniffing. Example: I used to live in the Hawkesbury in Blue Mountains, I...

Never heard of that MT, how is it going?

It is only useful to get over the line if you are playing in pod's with players sealing off, ensuring quick attacking ball. The Lions BR were very good, particularly Curry, who shut McRight down and stopped several of our attacks. To sum up, Harry is a very good Super Rugby player but not our long term...

Re South Africa I agree with one poster here. BobbyV, Hooper and McReight, Tizzano may make it, as I thought McReight was a bit quiet last night.
