    Refereeing decisions

Probably about time for World Rugby to warn the Springboks again about their endless use of medics and waterboys to pass messages. Peak example was in the first half yesterday when one of the Springboks (Willemse, I think) was down with an ankle injury surrounded by three NZ medical staff whilst...

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

The planning for the Townsville game, with all the Wallabies tests for 2025, probably happened 12 months ago, and maybe reflects the thinking of RA at that time - Wallabies still struggling for interest, not great to watch, best not to put them up against the Saturday night games of the NRL and...

    Super Rugby AUS

Yes - the Wallabies game is actually the last game to be played on Allianz before it closes for 3 months to fix up the drainage.

    Shute Shield 2025

Yep, it will cost both in terms of rate-payer money and time. They never seem to mention that Fred Caterson already holds 6 soccer fields, a baseball field, a BMX track, a radio-control car track, a cemetery, an indoor basketball centre, carparks, plenty of mountain bike and walking tracks...

Rugby Championship 2025: Wallabies v Argentina

I feel like the reign of Schmidt has shown us that we don't need to rush players into the team in order to be ready for the Next Big Thing (RWC 2027). Toole is a perfect example who's had to wait, playing well and improving at the label below, and now looks like a ready-made Test player. Maybe...

Rugby Championship 2025: Wallabies v Argentina

Yes. I told my TV exactly that, quite loudly, at the time.

    Third Tier 2026

Is that the Australia Cup? Australian soccer has its own dilemma that it can't solve - too few people care about the A-League clubs, and the clubs that people do care about come with all sorts of baggage, often violent. As soon as the support for an A-League club gets passionate, it devolves to...

    Australian rugby/RA

No problem then...only need to get RA, NSW Rugby, and SRU to talk. Ah well, it was a good idea for a moment.

    Australian rugby/RA

Yeah, I get that there were a good number of pro players at the GFs, but I think promoting that ahead of time would be helpful to show to casual supporters the spectrum of Australian rugby. The club GF days are a great advertisement for the sport, showcase them to those extra viewers who are...

    Australian rugby/RA

This is one of the times where the fragmentation of Australian rugby really frustrates me. Having the club rugby GFs on a weekend where there's no Wallaby match is perfect for some cross-promotion - really promote Wallabies attending the GFs etc, but of course, Rugby Australia doesn't work well...

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

How would it raise fixed costs? I don't think you need studio hosting or anything like that, just a stream that plays game replays, existing other content like Between Two Posts, and then prioritises live games when they're on. I'd have thought it would take an intern about an hour to set up a...

    Waratahs 2026

Strong Friday night bias in the Tahs home games again, same as this season. I'm not sure that's great, but the consistency is good.

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

Stan needs an autoplay option for pubs - it's easy for them to simply dial up ESPN or Fox Footy and leave it there 24 hr a day, whereas you need to dial up a particular game on Stan. Stan's got enough content to just roll out one thing after another in a single stream.

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

From the SMH today: Nine’s new English Premier League broadcast deal has helped add more than 200,000 subscribers to Stan, building on a record result for the streaming service as investors cheered the full-year results from the media company. Earnings at Stan grew by 31 per cent to $60.3...
