    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

Can I put in my semi-regular request for Super Rugby teams to replicate something like the Tah Talk pod from the Tahs which was (gulp) almost 20 years ago. Run by the media manager of the Tahs at the time, I think it was also Morgan Turinui's first media gig as well, whilst he was playing. It was great...

    Waratahs 2026

Hard to stick with one of those three guys when the other two were on the same level, always tempting to switch to an alternative when the going got tough. That's probably Bowen's advantage for 2026 - no obvious alternative at this stage.

I don't think stopping the clock fixes the problem - scrum resets are still wasted time with no action even if it doesn't come off the game clock. Some Super Rugby played in poor conditions would be interminably long if this was the case.

Wallabies v Lions, 19 July Suncorp

RugbyPass knows, like everyone else, that Sualii is great for clicks. Ergo, just dial up some "Million dollar man is bad at rugby", and watch the coin roll in.

First Nations & Pasifika XV vs the Lions - Tue, Jul 22 @ 8:00 PM, Melbourne

Are you kidding me? What a lame approach by the Lions - especially since they're specifically bringing in extra players for the game.

    Shute Shield 2025

No work commenced yet - it's just out for tender at this point. And yes, the current DA is just for fields and some basic facilities, no clubhouse as such.

Wallabies v Fiji, Sunday, 6 July, 1:30pm @ McDonald Jones Stadium, Newcastle

Yeah, that's what they've said about every calf injury in the past couple of years. First: it's just precautionary, they'll be right soon. Two weeks later: calf injuries are tricky, it's hard to say exactly when they'll be right. Two weeks after that: probably another month...

    Waratahs 2026

Allianz Stadium may close for months after the NRL finals to fix the underground drainage and turf, apparently. The Allianz pitch has looked poor ever since it opened, about time they fixed it up properly. Sydney FC might be off to Leichhardt Oval for a while.

    Waratahs v British & Irish Lions - Saturday, 5 July @ SFS

Now now, no need to get cranky at those Queenslanders. The Tahs only perform at their best when powered by pure, unalloyed hatred flowing from the north. At times, we've tried replacing that with anger from Canberra or Melbourne, but it's turned out to be just poor quality whinging. Let the hate...

Hope he gets a mention at the game - he's been a good servant of the team.

    Waratahs 2026

Yeah, I get what you mean, but Edmed looked best when taking the ball square to the line rather than sitting back in the pocket. He's not a stepper like Quade or an open field runner like Donno. I'm not confident in the Tahs fly-half option improving much next year - but second row definitely will.

    Melbourne Rebels 2025 and beyond...

Thanks for the updates oztimmay. For those only checking on this occasionally, what's the PEP subpoena?

    Waratahs 2026

It just seemed to me that the game plan this year didn't suit Edmed - he's a running 10 who's best when challenging the line, but the plan this year seemed to have him entirely as a distributor, practically disappearing as a threat.

    Lions Tour 2025

ChatGPT, write me an article about national allegiances in rugby in the style of The Guardian: oh look, here it is!

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

It's a shocking statistic that 25% of Seven's overall costs - for their whole operation - goes to the AFL to pay for those rights. Unbelievable. It sounds very ambitious from 9, but how are they going to make money from grabbing all the major sports, when Foxtel, 7, and Optus are all losing...
