RJT is the fraternal twin. I think he played 2nds Tennis and 2nd XV. Always living in his brother’s shadow obviously. The only other New boy I know of as versatile as Ash’s uncle was a scholarship boy who was Senior Prefect, Dux, SUO and played 1sts basketball from year 8 and 1st XV from year 10.

I think sport is compulsory at every GPS school (maybe except High). New lowest teams in 13s also train twice a week. Joeys boarding numbers and the fact it is very much a rugby school which attracts rugby kids has a lot to do with it.

Bailey R is on a genuine indigenous scholarship awarded to him in year 6. He’s one of just a handful of indigenous scholarship boys who play rugby. Most unfortunately leave or are expelled before year 12. This bursary was named after a 4th generation New family who lost their son to suicide. The...

Ashton Thomas definitely not. He is 4th generation at New. His uncle, grandfather and great grandfather were all Dux and his uncle Peter Thomas in addition to Dux was also Senior Prefect, 1st XV, 1st VIII (two years and won in 87), Captain of Debating, SUO and Athletics colours.

Isn’t Justice T in year 11? If so 1. Amazing achievement to be captain especially at Joeys. 2. Is this a first anywhere?

I think this must be ‘under 19 rule’ was brought in much later than 81. I was recently at GPS Gold Challenge and one of the Riverview guys had done year 12 3 times. Either that or he Captained Riverview Aths and 1st XV while in year 10.

There have been quite a few from Newington who were very talented multi sport athletes but never made it to rep. cant remember name but he played 1sts basketball from year 8 (combined GPS 1sts 4 years and GPS Premiership 4 years) and 1st XV 3 years, Dux and Senior Prefect. Several others in...

I saw someone succinctly explain the rise of Shore rugby in recent years. Conversely can someone please explain Newington’s ‘decline’? They are currently advertising for a Director of Rugby too. No specific mention however of coaching both boys and girls.

I am highly confused. Is the Australian Schoolboys Team just announced the highest representative honours available for schoolboys? Lots of missing names like Tonga and Sharples etc.

Completely correct. This has been a long standing issue at Newington (last year for example had an amazing back line on paper and so did 2021). Unsure why the coaching staff haven’t picked up on it.

Just seen GPS teams. I’m a Newington Old Boy with some family members at King’s so a few observations: 1. King’s who are leading the Comp and may go undefeated have 5 boys in GPS 1s and Newington who have only won 2 games has 4 boys selected. 2. The Captain of King’s was not selected anywhere...

This has been bugging me for a while, what is the pronunciation of the forename of the Joeys Captain. Is it Huey?

Beating Joeys at home? Yes I was wondering about the As, the 14s and 15s were both very strong last year

I didn’t know Riverview were so strong this year. I had assumed it would be Scots and Joeys
