    Waratahs 2025

It's the errors that get me. He's good for one knock on, one lazy penalty and one maddening attempted flick pass/double cutout/chip and chase per game. His handling and skills were revelatory five years ago, but it feels like a bit at this point. The juice isn't worth the squeeze, I just wish...

We also forget how bad Fox was towards the end of their deal. Skeleton staff who didn't do any homework, just coasting on former glories. Morgan Turinui gives more wisdom in three minutes than Fox gave you in a whole season.

My memory it was generally some piece of irrelevant trivia about a players uncle, who played 400 games for the Mount Isa Mud Dogs in the 1980s or some shit. But as far as colour goes it was fine enough. He was good in his day.

    Super Rugby R4 2025: Waratahs v Force @ SFS, Saturday 8 March

The only thing that holds me back from tipping them is they are the Force. Failure is baked into the walls. Don't get me wrong the Tahs have had a lean decade but the Force have been so consistently disappointing when it matters that I'm wary of putting my hard earned behind them. Early signs...

    Didn't see Edmed being dropped

NSW Waratahs v Fijian Drua - Fri 28 Feb 2025 7:30pm Allianz Stadium

A lot of these judgements feel a bit premature. Very hot, early games, scrappy and disjointed affairs where neither team looked that comfortable with ball in hand. There's been enough flashes to show there's something there. Jorgo looks like a star, we know what JAS can bring, Kellaway rock...

NSW Waratahs v Fijian Drua - Fri 28 Feb 2025 7:30pm Allianz Stadium

In my recollection that wasn't that easy, 40 out on the angle. I can understand why they went to the corner there - Edmed might have also been subbed by then.

I wonder how much of that is confidence in their lineout maul, a bit like we saw with the Brumbies under McKellar. They figure from 5m out there's a 50% chance they score, so go for it. The Drua defended it really well, so you have to tip your hat to them. I wonder if they could have realised...

NSW Waratahs v Fijian Drua - Fri 28 Feb 2025 7:30pm Allianz Stadium

I was surprised how affordable good seats were. We're pretty much on halfway for $60 each, which is pretty good in this economy. A burger, chips and a few beers will likely cost more than the seats themselves.

NSW Waratahs v Fijian Drua - Fri 28 Feb 2025 7:30pm Allianz Stadium

In regards to this game specifically, the Drua is currently $3.70 with the bookmakers with a 9.5 point start. That seems way out to me. In hot conditions coming off two tight losses I reckon they will be tough to beat.

25k is fantasy. That world doesn't exist anymore, they weren't even getting that in 2014 (finals aside). Anecdotally, I've had multiple people ask me to go to Tahs games this season already. Going with my dad and brother on Friday who haven't been to a game in years. It's happening.

I still watch a bit of FTA, mainly because I don't want to use my brain at all. There's something lovely about channel surfing and ending up watching an old rerun on ABC Comedy or a Seinfeld ep on Go. I am paralyzed by choice the moment I fire up the Apple TV. I could watch any show ever made...

    Wallabies 2025

I think in the absence of a standout international candidate, you think about continuity. How can we keep the Schmidt infrastructure in place (assistants, high performance etc), while just changing the bloke at the top? That's where the local candidates come in. None of them are inspiring but...

Super impressed with Burkey. Unsure what commentating he's done in the past, but the bloke is a natural. Love the tone of his voice.

    Australian Rugby / RA

The Academy stuff seems to go in cycles. We set them up, warehouse a lot of our gun young players and release them for club games on the weekend or the odd U/20s game. But then they become great at running around cones and tackling bags, rather than actually playing rugby. So we disband the...
