And the answer the your second question would be because they have been the amalgamation of teams. As there was no senior commercial partner in the entity, they went with new names rather than argue.
He was better than the 6 foot 8 second rower we had come this year who somehow got at itm contract.
Well UC are the Brumbies major sponsor so don't think you can compare it to a partnership. Not really. That would be the same as the University of Melbourne partnership I'd say.
Clearly the money from the Vikings was needed. If the team is not called the Vikings, what exactly do they get out of it? Their logo at the top corner of the web page? Seems worth it.
I get that that's the company line, but how come the Force and Rebels can afford it and the Brumbies can't?
Realistically the Vikings probably could have gone the whole thing on their own, which would have taken control from the Brumbies. If anything they've been quite generous in that they are taking on board input from the Brumbies, in exchange for the Super Rugby players they likely would have got anyway.
Jeez. As a New South Welshman, all this whinging from Queanbeyan is making me wish we could donate the town to the ACT.
It would only require a minor redrawing of the border.
Technically they couldn't, the ARU made it so that no stand alone clubs weren't allowed to take part, that's why syd uni had to join Balmain to form the stars. It was a good policy, unfortunately many still see the Vikings as a stand alone team including myself!Realistically the Vikings probably could have gone the whole thing on their own, which would have taken control from the Brumbies. I do hope one day the other clubs can get together with the support of the brumbies and form a truly canberra team, until then I will be supporting the eagles!C,mon Grant , give it up. I look at it this way. It's like shearing a sheep. You start on the belly & often the first couple of blows are the hardest but once you get it open then it will get better and when you finish that one you go and get another. In other words if we do it properly and support this NRC team we may stand a chance to get another. It has got to start somewhere.
Many don't see it that way, the opportunities they are providing for non Vikings players are very limited and this will hurt the local comp big time!I cannot understand this negativity. Sure you hate them within your regional league, but that's gone now, they're representing Canberra and will provide many many opportunities for non Vikings players that weren't there before. It's a win for everyone, so man up and go support the rugby if nothing else.

Of course they were going to have more players than anyone else, but 11 when the second most successful gets 1 is a bit out of whack I think!Shocking development to learn the most successful team of the last decade has provided the bulk of the local players.
Just imagine that Easts didn't help from the Eagles and your team was called syd uni with one Easts player selected and they played the games at uni in uni colours, I don't think you would be too enthusiastic about that!Jeez. As a New South Welshman, all this whinging from Queanbeyan is making me wish we could donate the town to the ACT.
