QLD Premier Rugby 2025

Blazing Saddles

Really timely performance from Wood. The Reds need locks more than backrowers, but playing that influential a game two finals in a row, alongside his longstanding connection with guys like Wilson and McReight, he maybe a chance of a Super Rugby AU call up.
He did nothing at all in the Shute Shield, must have improved

Should have been penalty Bond off that kickoff, brothers knock on and then played it on the ground

He certainly has the ability, probably got distracted by Bond niggle and focussed a bit more on the man not the ball in 2nd half. All that push and shove is something Heeno would have is his game plan.

Objectively, Brothers are a great club. They tick so many boxes when it comes to club greatness, legacy, culture and - obviously - success. They will be absolutely deserving of a 2025 trophy.

Subjectively, I HATE Brothers. They epitomise everything about Australian rugby that I despise...elitism, GPS, big money, high-end focus on pillaging talent from all points of the compass etc. BUT even with all that personal preference in place, my favourite club player is - and has been for some time - Harry Wilson. (for reference 2 - Eli Pilz, 3 - Mat Gicquel, 4 - Tyler Campbell, 5 - Kohan Herbert).

Overall, from an independent view point, it could be assumed that Brothers coaching staff would not have seriously contemplated meeting Bond in the GF. They are likely going frame by frame through the last 8 Bond games right now. Bond are in the unique position of being able to play rugby in a manner that is so blatantly obvious..but only AFTER they have played it. Their style of heads up, go forward, attack from anywhere on the field has been honed to the point where they are well on track to do to Brothers, what they did to Wests and Easts.

Heeno and Campbell are phenomenally-experienced, guru level exponents of the game. The team they have developed over 2 full seasons is a team that can grind, manage, control and explosively ignite a game almost at will. They have forwards who can muscle up when needed, but can also carry, run and offload. They have mercurial backs who can effectively attack from inside their own quarter, but can also muscle up and snaffle turnovers on defence. Bond's best place to attack an opposition is....anywhere on the playing field. This isn't a PR paragraph on Bond. It's fact.

The Filth will need to control, stifle and contain the Bullsharks on defence, and use a combination of muscle, structure and flair on attack. But Brother's REAL ace card will be crucial 'big game' experience.

Both teams have the potential to win the GF by 30plus points.

Both coaches and captains will know exactly what to do and when to do it at all stages of the game. It will be a matter of who figures out 'the crucial master play' first.

Bond by 14points. Tyler Campbell Man of the Match.
Dang! I was wrong….ish!

Probably the best neutral game I’ve been at live in many years.

No matter the result it was going to be a good story. Love or hate Brothers you need to respect that they’re essentially flying the flag for consistent and strong community rugby clubs in QLD. And Bond have been on an absolute heater in the finals. Heenan is a genius, must be on consideration for best QPR coach of all time.

Great finish to the game. Watching it live there didn’t look to be any reffing howlers which was good. Bond really dug deep considering how many cards were dished out.

The Bond forward pack must have drank Heeno’s Magic Potion at halftime because I think that 20min period to start the 2nd half where they had scrum and lineout domination was the game breaker. If Brothers had scored first I reckon they would have run away with it.

On Heeno, there was some good coaching there. One that stood out to me was the 2nd yellow card when Bond halfback was sinbinned, in the next play Heeno subbed off the fullback and sent on the replacement halfback, which I thought was a bold decision but it seemed to work well.

Once the yellow card expired he sent on Dion Samuela to play fullback instead of sending the half back on. Which paid off with the last Bond try where Samuela made the break and kicked over for the try.

Brothers backline on paper should have blown the barn doors off but they definitely looked like a bunch of guys who hadn’t played together much.

Feel for Cartwright, he was unreal but also missing 3 conversions when the game was so close was a big problem. None of the misses were easy though.
