If Hwi Sharples isn't the definition of being "identified" at 14 and then given the rails ride through the pathways i don't know what is.

He's fine though.

Given he clearly holds his own with the 9s from other states it's hard to take issue with his selection for NSW.

I have no idea why people seem to think that underage selections should start from scratch every year. That was very much the old pathway system and it worked terribly.

No one is saying to start from scratch, but selectors should start casting the net slightly larger. Putting your "PONI" player in cotton wool and not having them play on the Sunshine Coast is embarrassing. These kids need to be playing Rugby not pushing tin in a gym or prancing around on the training field.

All eligible u18 players should be available for selection to play in the upcoming schools' tournament on the Sunshine Coast. No player should be placed in cotton wool and given a free pass through to the next stage
Sharples is 20 though, he's not eligible for the ASJRU Championships
