I must admit I went to bed with about 20 mins to go (I been having a few medical troubles last few weeks,so not too flash) it was 11pm here. I got up this morning , not too concerned who won, as both teams get home game next week, and my Canes had already beaten Brumbies at home this year, so I figure if we good enough we could do it anyway.
On the reffing, I shrug shoulders, like every single ref he probably missed a few things, and both ways, and the day a ref doesn't I know I haven't watched enough. On the counter ruck, I actually like that, it's become something a few teams have got into this year as the jackaler is almost a protected species now and you better to sometimes let him win ball and just blast past him if you can. Rugby is a game of competing (it ain't league), so never give the ball away easily. As I said, basically it was a game that didn't have a lot on it, as both teams get home game next week, so I enjoyed it.

Agreed. Hard to see what we're trying to acheive with TMOs supporting the referee if they're not going to come in and say your got it wrong on clear things like that.
Unfortunately in a tight game that ultimately opened the window for the turning point.

It made a massive difference to the Brumbies, a semi-final at home, and playing the Reds (most likely) who they have beaten twice or as you say the Canes who have beaten the Brumbies at home already once this year.
It's a bad miss from the ref and assistant ref, you gotta feel dirty it was a blatant knock on, that had a direct effect on the game.. and not for the first time this year, the ref has had a poor performance and we have people talking about a shit call and not the great game.

For better or worst it is and has always been part of the game. The referee in Rugby has a much larger influence on outcomes as compared to many other sports which involve a lot less interpretation and clear cut rules as opposed to laws. Nor are all poor calls or interpretations equal in bearing on a game with so many other variables like location on field, time in game, consistency of call, whats let go, what is called etc..etc.. changing the weight of impact. People like to make comments like you need to play the referee out of the game, but honestly that's just foolish unless one team is significantly better than another team. In any tight affair the referee is going to have a meaningful impact. At the end of the day you've just got to accept that it's part of the game if you enjoy the sport, but I'm still not sure what we're trying to achieve if not to support the referees to make better calls, be more consistent with the technology on hand like TMO/video referee's. Seems a no brainer, but we seem to have all these odd rules of where and how they can support the referee.

Mate haven't looked at it a lot yet, but what was Matt Burke talking about. He said just the fact the ball went from his grasp even backwards it's a knock on. See with commentators being that knowledge of laws of game, no wonder we have moans from the casual viewer. We got idiots like him and Morgs here in NZ too. They don't seem to realise they should sometimes think before they say anything. I will eventually get around to looking at it no doubt, and catch the last 20 minutes of game.

I didn't take much notice of them either, easier to watch myself if it worries me. I take it Crusaders scored directly from the knock on?
Just for Morgs and his rant about 2nd week of semis, when my Canes beat either Crusaders (if they end up with them), Brumbies will get home semi if they win their next week's game anyway, so no real problems anyway!
Don't thank me Brumbies fans, us Canes fans try to assist our us cousins!

Mate, he knocked it on, went to pick it up one-handed, and it came off his hand and hit the ground... it was a poor call that directly affected the Super Rugby finals.
There have been some horrible refereeing performances this year, and as molman said, we need to do better, even if its using technology. I would also suggest you watch it before making a comment on it.

Man at one point Reece got tackled and then just got straight up. I didn’t see him release the ball at any stage.

RA has spent too much money on JAS for him not to play.
This doesn't make it right, but it will be why he gets to play no matter if someone else is in better form.

Exactly my thoughts on the standard of refereeing too Molman. There seems to be no official accountability for poor performances, and it is hardly encouraging better performances for fans also to be continually defending errors by those with the whistle or TV monitors. Refereeing errors do impact on games and last night was a clear example even if only considering the missed knock on late in the game.

Focusing more on the Brumbies own play. They were couple of opportunities which they needed to execute on and some decisions which could have been better. The knock on when they were on the attack about 5-10m out in the first half was a wasteful opportunity. Decision like when Wright ran the ball back up the guts in the first half and got turned over easily which I believe from memory was the start of a Crusader raid which resulted in a try was poor.
I'm also not sure that they are where they need to be with their kicking. It wasn't a bad as some of the commentators made out, but I feel that in most cases the Crusaders ended with better territiry of possession.
They also looked messy towards the end when they had that final attacking opportunity but knocked on. They were less structured and more frantic. Feel like if they'd settled somewhat they were a decent chance there to force a penalty and/or get over.
