Joeys 2nds are red hot when you consider they are mostly made up of 3rds players who are not wasting the chance to impress.

SJC 13A's are an unusual team as they have never played as a team before. Joeys has no Prep school.
I put this result down to the decline of rugby at Knox. especially in the Prep School where once they dominated.

As a NSWCIS selector and coach I would see Knox dominate this rep team. Now, not so much.
Now Knox are lucky to get two teams when they used to have a 5ths in Knox Prep.
This of course filters through to year 7. Such a shame.

Thought on St Ignatius v Oakhill

The old adage of a Champion team beats a team of Champions comes to mind.

Oakhill have a lot to like about that side and they are capable of winning the ISA if the Forwards can hold enough of a platform to feed some very exciting Backs clean ball with a bit of time.

Riverview look fit, well drilled and aggressive in defence which caused errors that lead directly to run away tries. They aren’t flukes or mistakes by opponents but forced errors. This is a side that can build from the platform the Front Row gives them. No monsters but a tight 5 looking to own the tight stuff.

Strange first half today with a lot of stoppages, penalties and handling errors from both sides. 12/5 to Oakhill at HT and deserved lead.

Whatever the View coaches told the boys at HT worked a treat with 3 quick tries that came from pressure and upping the speed of the game. As the game progressed you could see the Oakhill pack fade and struggle to keep up with a View side that maintained the pace. This didn’t stop the Oakhill Backs from creating chances and capitalising on a few though. They don’t need much space to eat meters. View maintained the rage and closed it out 45/26.

BOG
Oakhill: 2, 10, 15

Do Joeys have a lot of players in the 1st xv that are injured?
Yes they do. Many were given another week to heal.
Plus plenty of reserves were brought on today.
Joeys have a history of plucking lads from the lower grades and playing them in different positions.
The 1st XV should look different next Saturday when compared to today.

Similar for View at least back a few years. Prep only had 1 maybe 2 sides so year 7 was the intake.

Very strange and not a good sign although very young. I remember Knox, Waverley being almost impossible to beat at that age and then around the 15s you had their number.

The 2nds result is a concern tbh. They were one of the other schools that could trial a good 2nds. Have to acknowledge Joeys probably have a very good 2nds though.

Apparently Grammar 1’s lost 81 - 0 vs Joeys 3rds. Surprising given Grammar have generally been able to compete in the 3’s comp. A bad year or a trend?
Very weak year but last year was the best age group for some time. However there are very few players in Years 7 and 8 so potentially the start of a trend. Years 9-11 have some strength and depth so the next few years will be better than this one but the long term is a concern.

Bring on round one - plenty of CAS vs GPS trials to work the kinks out - let’s hope the coaches have a view on squads and anyone carrying an injury pep up for selection.
Stock those canteens and BBQ’s !

Jeez the knox s&c program has to be best in the country. Year on year the 15s are weak and then presto, the next year’s 16as are strong. Congrats knox.

Knox I am told have a massive yr 10 intake with some very desirable students included. Like Joeys many parents do not have the funds for 7-12 so 10-12 works for them.

Aga-Petos, O Large, Lemoto. All out.

Lemoto is fit to play, bit dusty after his getaway. Large shouldn't be far behind him. Not sure about Petos. Nonetheless, plenty of size/skill on the sideline for Scots.
True, Waves too missing their usual front row (scrum still killed it) and gun centre yesterday.

Will be better when they return this week.

It was a tough day but some of the lower age games were more competitive that the score suggests eg the 14s played with 13 players against a squad of 20+ and it was 7 all for most of the first half. 16Bs played short for large parts of the game too.
