Thanks, Admin.
Les basically just confirmed in the Reds v Blues postgame that he's the Wallabies' man, but that the finer details are still being worked through. Seems to confirm Christy's report from earlier this week.
There were reports this week that the QRU issues were resolved, the only thing holding them back was finalizing contract signing, which was delayed due to the short week.
I just hope it is all about sorting assistants and backroom staff. When Cheika went to the Wallabies he took everyone is it created a vacuum for the Tahs (last time a super coach took the job) We need to be smarter all around. Here is hoping we can repatriate some Aussie coaches like Pete Hewat
Hey, I've got an idea... the Reds squad will want to go too. Just change the WB jersey to red, job done. We'll just play QPR next season, eh? Fab planning. Love it.
After this whole process I’m starting to think there was really bugger all interest in the job and the options were very low. We’ve got lucky to have a local candidate who if more options were there would probably still be on a short list.
I’ve said it before - Joe might be a good guy and good coach but that wouldn’t stop him from having too much ownership over this process since we bent over and let him have his way with it.
Joe knew he was in control of the situation when we kept running back like a lost lover begging him to stay.
Now this process has been drawn out by what, 10 weeks since originally planned announcement and we are going to end up appointing the local prospect who was heavily favoured anyway but again with special terms which aren’t usually permitted for our national coach.
Reckon there’s the salary negotiations taking time as well? When it’s a small and not great group going for it RA aren’t going to throw a massive offer as they don’t need to but Les would be fully entitled and should want more also knowing there isn’t anybody else lined up.
Yep and I’m sure the QRU are also looking to have a portion of his already guaranteed 2026 Reds salary covered by RA as there would be an expectation that Kiss is reviewing and attending other Aussie franchise games and meeting with players etc during SRP (Super Rugby Pacific) in preparation for camps.
I really hope it’s been friendly negotiations and not stand offish otherwise the rot has begun and will if Wallabies aren’t winning immediately it’ll be awful leading into the WC.
One of the best things Les has going for him is his ability to be liked by the public and general demeanour. It will buy extra good will compared to other combative or frosty types.
I can cope with friendly but it better be bloody firm. The RA rot set in long ago and I can not abide the RA now screwing a successful franchise as it starts to achieve something in order to resolve piss-poor results from their earlier work. If RA doesn't like it they can always take Bernie in which case they directly have to deal with the results of their arrangements. Or McKellar. Either works without damage to the Reds. Even Cheika.
Agree with your assessment of one only of Les strengths.
Don’t mean a rot in RA. That’s well beyond established and entrenched. I’m purely talking about tolerance of performance even though he deserves a long leash considering our ranking and what he’ll have to work with.
I don’t want this prolonged exercise which I get has a lot of moving parts to leave a lasting taste in some idiots mouths within RA. What is a good thing has been Waugh, Herbert and Horne's actions over last 12 months with other things.
Fairfax press have jumped the gun 20 minutes ago and announced Kiss as the next Wallaby coach. Well, sorta. We all knew a few weeks ago Les was the pea for the job.
