Two Blues would be strong (assuming they get their league players to play) and I suspect Gordon will also be strong (notwithstanding they may lose some to school programs).

Have heard a lot of Warringah/Newport lads have decided to play League instead. A disappointing change which will certainly NOT benefit the Waratahs as they will struggle to keep these boys in the system and away from the rival code.

Hello to all and looking forward to the 2025 season. Good luck to all teams. Some interesting history for Shore this year Charlie Francis (declaring he is my nephew) will play his second year in the First IV, 100 years exactly after his great Grandfather J.F. Linton (second row from the left) It will be interesting to see who Shore makes captain this year, some of the more recent arrivals (2024/25) seem to get more than their fair share of the air time, I wonder if a 6 year, home grown country boarder from Forbes and 4th Generation Shore Boy means anything to the School these days...... time will tell.

I didn't think many clubs or reps fielded u16 teams
mate not every kid has grandparents that can afford to pay the school fees. In our district we've had a number of kids move to schools in Sydney, Gold Coast & Brisbane on scholarships who were part of our 15's program last year, over half of them didn't last longer than a few weeks at the school as they didn't like boarding school - it isn't for everyone. It is a shame that these boys and the local high school kids don't have a proper club comp to play in this year. They will have a fairly strong FNC team this year down in Parramatta for the State Championships though.

Hi there Rob, great to see you again.

Here is the match report (Courtesy of the Catholic Press) of the 1925 game v St Josephs in which J.F Linton would have played in

S.J.C. v . Church of England Grammar School

The fifth round of the GPS football competition found SJC playing Shore at Northbridge. From the outset Shore adopted spoiling tactics, standing close up to the College backs to prevent their moving. With Shore breakaways coming fast around the scrum, SJC found it difficult to get their back-line machinery to work. Although College were having the better of the game in the opening session, no points were coming. Cullen kicked to Shore backs, who kicked through to White and followed fast. The bounce beating the SJC full-back, Booth gathered and scored for Shore. College forwards took the ball along to Shore territory, where Finlayson picked up in the loose and passed to 0 'Connor, who scored. Cullen converted. SJC, 5-3.

Shore soon scored again in exactly the same manner as before, and led 6 to 5 at the interval. From the kick off in the second half SJC started a great passing movement, in which the ball was handled by seven or eight players. With the line at his mercy Ovens was off-side for the final pass. Keeping up the pressure, SJC were 'soon rewarded, for from a ruck, Alsaker wriggled his way over. The kick failed. S.J.C 8-6.

SJC attacked, but twice the ball was kicked dead. Shore replied with a vigorous offensive, which ended in MacKellar scoring a good try. Shore again took the lead , 9-8. A vimful rush by the Cerise and Blue vanguard was held up on the Shore line. After a series of scrums, Bryson fought his way over. SJC, 11-9. A scrum near the touch line at half-way gave the ball to Alsaker. By quick, short passes the leather went along the line to Carlton who received in front of the goal with the defence coming across at him. He made straight for the corner, and his pace just carried him over. SJC, 14-9.

Shore essayed a passing rush, and the ball went across to the winger, whose inside pass went astray. The inside centre ever- ready Smith snapped it up, side-stepped Shore's centre, drew the full-back and sent Carlton on to score between the posts. Cullen goaled.

The final whistle sounded with St. Joseph's College victors in a hard-fought battle by 19-9.

In the thirteen matches that season St. Joseph 's College scored 359 points to 62.

Two years in the 1st XV, including being a part of a premiership-winning team in 2024, tells me your nephew is a solid rugby player. Being a 4th-generation Shore boy is also great. However, being captain isn't an honorary position. It requires leadership skills and a strategic rugby mind. Being a great player and being captain are not necessarily the same thing.

Ok everyone.
The AAGPS tipping comp is up again.

I am once more happy to do this job. I have time on my hands as I am now medically retired.
In the past this has been a lot of fun and each year we see winners come from many backgrounds.
Last year it was a schoolboy who won (won't reveal the school)

Question?

Would like to participate this season.
Entries close on WEDNESDAY before round 1.
Just reply with an indication of wanting to join.

There are limited places again this.
In 2025 I am though deleting tippers who miss three rounds in a row.
When this happens I will invite those who missed out to join and they will start with the points of the deleted tipper.

A reminder on how this works...

TIPPING COMPETITION. How does this work?

For those new here I hope this explains this.

With only three games each week I devised a system where players can score more
This is achieved by using margins.
Various margins are worth points.

Points break down.

Lose- 0

Win- 3 points if your margin is BELOW +5 of the final score

Win- 5 points if your margin is ABOVE and WITHIN the +5

Win- 10 points you pick the margin exactly

DRAW- 20 points If you select a draw

Here is this in action.

Game is Scots College v Sydney Boys High

Final result

Scots 10 High 32

Winning margin +22

The following members chose the following. Here is how they scored

Headbutt- chose Scots +25 (0 points)

Guppy- chose High +10 (3 points, a win but below the margin)

Muppet- chose High +26 (5 points, win within +5 of the margin)

Fluke- chose High +22 (10 points, win with the exact margin)

Maximum you can score in one week is 30 points. These margins come in handy as you can run down leaders or make a break. Plus is you fail to get your tips in you are given by default the away teams with no margin.

Tips are taken by PUBLISHING them here with a post. I will endeavor to have them added by 3:15pm on Saturday.

NO TIPS are accepted after this time.

You may wish to message me as well.

TIPPING comp entries will close this WEDNESDAY 14 May @5pm .

Could not agree more Eighty Minutes, when you turn up in Year 11 you cannot and have not earned that right to lead by example, to motivate boys when you have displaced home grown boys who have been at the school often from Prep School. ''Leaders'' like these do not have the passion to lead a team to victory, their only true focus is with which League team they are going to sign with next year.
