Waratahs v Chiefs - Friday 11 April 2025

The Ghost of Raelene

I was ready to move on from Walton starting the year but he’s been an absolute gem.

Good on him. With what ODonnell has shown it’s really put Foketi on notice now. Good things starting to bubble for the future.

What a wild game. I know we carry on about Tupou, but that fella played 30mins and was walking around in the defensive line like me coming back after 2 seasons off, he must do almost no running between games.
The way the Tahs shut down Dmac won them the game. He was not happy in that post match interview. Glad he wasn't in my fantasy team this week.
It is wild that Tahs have the 2nd worst for and against in the comp and are now running 4th.....

A bit more than just bashing him - boxing him with clever kicks and aggressive defence made him cough it up mostly without needing to bash him.
Pressure. Made him move laterally. You let him get forward you’re stuffed. It’s similar to what sides starting doing to Quade. Pressure him and they chuck the wrong ball. Cliff Lyons way back for Manly was the same.

Destroy you with time. Take it away.

Absolutely immense. But how is that reffing meant to be viewed as fair? With a few minutes to go the penalty count was 14 to 2. How could you say that performance by the Chiefs only conceded 2 penalties in 70 minutes? Especially with one of them being the most blatant red card head knock.

The lopsided penalty count, the non-red card and the disallowed Foketi try are inexcusable. I am so happy that the Tahs won, if they lost my week would’ve been ruined.

More positively:

Another unspoken gem was Dobbins. Getting pilfers, smacking fluffybunnys and most importantly nailing his throws. The main difference between this week and last week is the Tahs were nailing their lineouts. As soon as Heaven came on, he fluffed his very first.

Can Philip please play the rest of the season? The Tahs scrum was in serious trouble which fortunately wasn’t exploited by the Chiefs.

Also love the irony in the Chiefs of all teams having their small guy just continually whacked. I’m so sick of Finau nailing the smallest guy late and off the ball, so glorious to see McKenzie destroyed legally and by guys his own size. Also getting stepped by Sua’ali’i was just chef’s kiss.

Very sad to see no Jorgensen but surely Kellaway and JAS will be in the Wallabies backline somewhere together. Throw in T. Wright and that’s gorgeous.

for the chiefs, Sititi is sorely missed. Also should’ve got Emoni on earlier, the starters weren’t good enough. ALB must have been fuming watching that on the tv, the worst game I’ve seen from a professional player this season by Wrampling. Only made 1 tackle out of 6 lol and it was a guillotine. 1 pass and 2 runs made for no metres. What a loser.

Would have been a disgrace if the tahs lost that with the shocking decisions.
The crap that some players get yellow cards for and then they put that hit on the same scale, that was a blatant red all day. A deliberate high hit should be treated more harshly than all the accidental ones

Joey Walton is a hard bastard
